These pics are of Tamiya’s 1/48 Sherman, which was built in Djibouti, Africa. I’m more of a 1/35 guy, but I decided to give 48 a try while I’m deployed. This kit was a pleasant little build (I may even do a 48 tiger to match.) The weathing isn’t the best, and the paint has a little to be desired (airbrush compressor fried because of a 220 socket… oops). All things considered, not a bad effort for being thousands of miles from my favorite hobby shop. Constructive Critism is always appreciated… this isn’t my best effort, but it was fun.
Looks fine to me. I was looking at my LHS recnetly and saw a 1/50 Corgi. Not to go to OT, but I was suprised at how small it was. I was thinking it would be closer to 1/35, but it seemed to be closer to 1/72. I’m sure it was an illusion, but that confirms my wanting to stay with 35. Anyway, your Sherman looks good and a Tiger would look good next to it. One thing about 1/48, is that you can stuff more of them in a small space.
Looks like a nifty little Sherman, particularly given the build conditions [tup][tup]. In the photos it does look somewhat monotone, athough I suspect your flash makes it appear more so than it is. Once you’re back home in a better build environment, you could probably tweak it with a bit of dirt and dust here and there, and have a great little Sherman.
Thank you all very much for the kind words. It was brush painted, but I got my airbrush compressor in time for the clearcoats. I’m thinking that I can dirty it up a little more. I had some pastel chalk on it, but it mysteriously rubbed off. My fellow Marines would never handle my models, would they?.. Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I’m working on Tamiya’s 1/35 Jeep, which is about the same size as the sherman.
