I have had the AER T-28 kit for some time and I am thinking about starting it. I have held off doing it to become a better modeler before I start. Well I may still not be good enough! I know it is much harder than a DML or Tamiya kit to build. Accurcy issues aside how bad it is? Has anyone built this kit? Thanks guys.
It was the lesser of the two T-28 kits with the ICM kit being superior. Jordi Rubio makes an aluminum barrel for it (TG-54). Here is a review of the ICM kit. It may help you some.
How is Alanger doing these days? They had a bit of a hacker attack on their website a year or so ago, and I was afraid to send them any important info. Sad thing…I’ve ordered a lot from them.
The ICM/Alanger kit is more accurate, but the AER’s kit is the only one whit the correct steel wheels. My choice, at the end of the day, was the kit from ICM.
Some of their deals, make me sick. For 1/35 sets, they have packaged a Pz.II Luchs (ICM) with 8 infantry, and are selling the lot for 8 bucks. The Pz.II, I have built, and I believe I picked it up for 15 at the LHS, the figures, look slightly familiar (my first figs) and I also got for 10 at the LHS…oh and a T-28 and T-35 both with figs if you bought both, would bring you to around a little of 20 USD…sick…gross…i want some…
EDIT
This is even worse, for $10.08, you can get in 1/48:
" The model kit includes fighters MiG-3 (122 parts), Yak-7DI (69 parts), Spitfire F.IX C (79 parts) with pilots and ground personnel (96 parts)."
I’m still hesitant to use his website since he had the poor service incidents last summer (May through Sept. 06). I will admit he made all right with me. Just felt the need to warn you.
I had no problems with him for the years I lived in Ft. Dix, NJ and Hanscom AFB, Mass. With the inherent risk of online transactions, all it takes is one misstep to destroy confidence. While I assume he has his business back under control, with all the places available to me, I prefer to deal with a shop I know I can trust without hesitation.
Well I ordered and paid for the T-35 ICM Kit March 1st. I emailed Steve three times without a reply as of today. I paid with Paypal so I have a little security. Am I worried? Not yet.
I placed an order for three kits February 11 after seeing a thread here about a sale that was about to end. Picked out a free one as well. Hadn’t heard anything for a while so I e-mailed Steve on March 2 just to see if there was a backorder problem. Just asking, no pressure. I just now walked in the door and here are my kits - all 4 of them, very well packaged and in original shrink wrap.
I think a little better communication between Alanger and the buyer would go a long way toward relieving delivery concerns but I got what I wanted at a killer price. It just took a little longer than I expected.
I’ve ordered from Alanger a couple of times, but this was more than two years ago, and at that time, I had absolutely no problems at all, outside of the fact that it took quite a bit to get the kits.
The order I placed with them back on March 18th hasn’t arrived…raised a Dispute with PayPal and promised delivery…still no package and no communication. I’ve escalated it for their intervention/resolution to recover the money, should have a decision by 05-10. Sad really because it’s not like I didn’t try to contact the guy…numerous attempts by email resulted in empty promises. My case isn’t an isolated one…so buyer beware.
The same thing happened to me. I emailed Steve and Max many times after 30 days of my order. ONLY after I filed a claim with paypal did Max get back to me. He lied and told me the kit was send and would send a tracking number later that day. Never did get the tracking order. About three weeks after paypal refunded my $$ Max asked me for my order info again?!!??
I think he is a liar and crook only because I can’t imagine anyone running a buisness that poorly. Never again!
