Aelutian campaign on The Military Channel

Did anyone see that great show on the Military Channel covering the Aleutian campaign? That was very interesting. There was some great footage of B-24, B-25, P-40, P-39, P-38 and even a few shots in the beginning of some P-36 and B-18 aircraft. Great stuff. It’s on again in a couple hours if you’re interested… you really should check it out. If you have a DVR, you might want to record it.

Makes me want to build another P-40 and a P-36 and P-39. Great stuff! [8D]

Thanks for the heads up!!

Man, makes me wish I had cable!

I watched it again after my lovely wife was asleep, I really enjoyed that show. I forgot to mention that they showed some B-10 footage in the beginning as well. That was a pretty brutal campaign, and it doesn’t seem to get the recognition it deserves. The conditions that those guys had to fly and fight in were abysmal. The retaking of Attu was one of the bloodiest invasions of the war, 2nd only to Iwo Jima! Wow! I didn’t know that!

Do I hear a Group Build coming?

Might be fun to set up for the end of the year. [:)]

Make it for Jan 1, 2007 and I’d be interested.

Alright I’m in for the GB!

Cool, I’ll set one up to begin at the end of the year. [8D]

There’s a really great series of books on the Aleutian Campaign called “The Forgotten War”, 4 volumes, and another fantastic book “The Aleutian Warriors.” Tons and tons of great pics in all the books, very detailed, and have I mentioned lots of pictures? They’re readily available here, but you can probably get them online everywhere else. I got mine at Barnes & Noble, so if you’re interested, I’d check their online store.

Here’s a pic of an Academy Aleutian P-38 I built a while back:

And a real one at Elmendorf AFB:

Cool! Thanks for the info and the pics! I’m really interested in learning about the Aleutian campaign, so I’ll pick up those books. [:)]
