Advisaries (Wet Basement)

About a month ago I had a little plumbing problem that resulted in some of model boxes getting wet. Most were fine but these two needed to be built or else… And I could not find detail kits for these other than decals.

These are two classic Monogram kits, part of the original issue. Both are 1/48th scale and built straight from the box. They are the Mig-15 and F-86.

It’s amazing how similar they look (in shape). Form the pics, the NMF’s came out beautiful. A lot of shine on the mig!. They should make a fine display.

Models look good. I’ve built them too, several times over the past 25 years.

Eduard, Airwaves, Black Box and Squadron Shop have detail sets, just to name a few.

Go out and do a search on model detail parts. Also do a search on Mig-15 and F-86.

Remember, it’s just a hobby! Happy modeling! Jerry Hall (IPMS member since -'76)

Very nicely done duo. The F-86 is one of my favorite jets.

Ya my wife says I have acouple of those build or else models too. I just find a new hiding place for them.[:D]

By the way your builds look great! I always had a soft spot for those two jets. Because they are from Revell makes them that much more special. Way to go.[tup]

Nice work on the two oldies. Well Done!

Very well done, Rossjr! The nmf looks great, and the decals look like you painted 'em on! Thanks for sharing with us!

Great work. Further proof that the modeller’s skill is what dictates the quality of the finished product. Not the $$$$$. AND that the old Revelogram stuff holds up even today. KUDOS.

Thanks for all the kind remarks!

They are both decent kits, I only wish I could have found PE sets for them…

The NMF is Metalizer from Model Master. It is decent stuff if you follow a process…

For those interested… 1) wet sand the model once it is assembled and ready for painting. 2) I put a coat of fine primer down to act as a catalyst between them plastic and the paint. In the case I used Mr. Surfacer 1200 (Great stuff BTW). 3) Shoot the color and let dry for at least 4-6 hours. 4) this was a buffable color so I buffed the kits with a soft cotton cloth. 5) Good coat of Metalizer Seal Coat. 6) Ready for any other painting required. 7) Coat of Clear Gloss. 8) Decals and washes. 9) Final coat of Clear Gloss…
