Advice with AM intakes

I bought Tamiya’s F-4E Phantom II and decided to go ahead and get the Cutting Edge Seamless Intakes for it for Meteor Productions. They look great, and I am glad I got them, everything I have read about the kit says its great, but the intakes suck…(HA![D)]) I was just wondering if anybody has used these and if they could give me some advice as to any downfalls such as hacking the kit up! Its big and expensive and I can’t afford to replace it if I ruin it… Thanks guys!

Hey Colin…I’m watching this one cause I too am building the big Phantom and considering the CE intakes. I’ve got a set of FOD covers just in case but I’d really like to see if these parts are worth the effort. What markings are you going to use? Did you buy any other AM parts?

This thing is huge!! post some pics![:D]

I got a set for my F-4D and F-4J. They didn’t come with any instructions, but just looking at them, there will have to be some cutting of the kit. It doesn’t look like it would be too much of a problem to get them to fit. I am planning on starting my F-4D as my next project.

I can only speak for the 1/48 scale set. I have test fitted them and found that one problem is the part of the intake trunk that connects with the compressor front isn’t round. It’s more like a rounded square, having slightly flattened sides. So for $20 I have to work on reshaping the intake to fit the compressor face. Again this is for the 1/48 set but the workmanship is from the same place.

Well, I guess I will just have to hack into her and see what happens!

I dont care much for the FOD covers, hopefully I can get this thing to look half way decent! Thanks for the help guys!
