Advice using Alclad II Aluminium.

Hi,

I’m going to try Alclad II Aluminium for my 1/72nd Academy B17.

I’ve purchased Alclad grey primer and filler which Alclad recommend for use with their basic paints. 1200, 3000 grade wet and dry for sanding and final polishing. Tackcloths for dusting and preperation before spraying.

What’s the best technique for spraying. Should I use a low or high power. Are there any gotchas?

BTW My compressor does not have a pressure gauge. Can I buy one and add it?

Out of the bottle, Alclad2 is quite thin & is best sprayed at low to moderate psi. It will vary depending on your set-up, but about 15 psi is a good starting point for experimentation. If your compressor does not have a pressure regulator, it would be wise to add one.

The ease with which you can add an outboard pressure guage depends on your compressor and its output fitting. If the output is quarter inch pipe thread with a reducer to small size fitting for airbrush hose, it is easy to add- just use a quarter inch T-fitting and the gauge. If, however, it ONLY had the small fitting, you’ll need to build up something with small fittings, and an adapter for the gauge. The small sized fittings may not be available at all hardware stores.
