The tour guide at the museum did say it wasn’t the original gun.I have no idea what it actually is.
She originally launched with the 3" according to Navsource.
Looks like she may have had a 4" in 1945
Submarinemuseums.org has some pix of her at the moment with the fairwater being repainted and has a base coat of red.
Might want to contact Karen the museum curator for more information on it.
I agree. She started with the 3", probably all dark gray in color. Then the 4" as seen in the burial at sea photo, and finished her service with a 5" mounted forward, and the 40mm moved to the mount at the front of the coning tower. There are pictures of that as well. Good idea to contact the museum. I’m sure they have excellent information not found on the web.
