Hi all, I’m in the process of building an F-14 and was wondering if its possible to attatch painted missiles and landing gear doors with superglue without having to scrape off the paint. From what I’ve read, attaching painted parts results in a weaker bond, but does this mean the part will eventually fall off in the future? Also, is CA the same as superglue?

When you glue painted parts to painted parts you are effectively only gluing the paint to more paint so the bond is only as strong as the adhesion of the paint. Only you can tell how good the paint bond is. Personally I scrape the paint off.
CA means cyanoacrylate and all the “Superglues” are basically cyanoacrylate. There are different blends and viscosities though, and some brands are much better than others. For modeling I stick with the Zap brand but there are others that are probably just as good.
I found it best in the long run to scrape the paint off and then touch up unless it’s a very small part then a dot of Testors glue will do.
I don’t know if this would work for you, but this is what I do on figues. I drill a small hole in one piece, glue a piece of wire into it then look where it will be placed the drill another corsponding hole on the other piece then glue together. All using super glue. Some one else on the forums gave me this advice. But, as I said I use it on figures which may be more forgiving.
