Advice for 1st Tiger model

My son who is 11 wants to build a Tiger tank. I would like to hear for you which one would be a good first model. Easy instruction, good fit and good quality. As always, thanks in advance for your help.

Ron

I would say Tamiya… good fit, not a lot of parts, quality is good and instructions are generally easy to understand.

Thanks, J-M, I personally like Tamiya, but wanted an unbias opinion.

there are lots of tiger kits out there though. for a quick and nice build, the Tamiya 1/48 early tiger I or afrikacorp tiger Is are great, since they only require single color schemes and minimal amount of parts using link and length tracks. the Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I early follows the same idea with rubberband one piece tracks and a lil more parts due to its larger scale. take notice that their late and mid version Tiger Is actually comes with individual links for tracks. the Dragon 1/35 Tiger Is, though extremely awesome, are sometimes complicated and overwhelming even for an adult. the late version Tiger Is also call for zimmerit, which isn’t recommended for beginners. there are also two AFV Club 1/35 ones but both are late version kits, same for the Skybow 1/48 kits. the academy 1/35 mid/late and early versions comes with interiors but of course that will require more work.

oh yea, on the tamiya 1/48 topic, LionRoar makes a nice lil PE add-on set that includes a neat set of grilles and an aluminum gun barrel, shaves some more time off of the barrel, too. you just need to make sure you have CA cement for their diecast hulls.

I built the Tamiya Late. Dream kit. It does have indies though.

Thanks guys for your valuable input.

Thanks,

Ron

Whatever kit you get,pay close attention to the instructions when assembling the wheels. They over lap and it is very easy to make a colossal mistake.

The Tamiya Early might be better, since it doesn’t require Zim. What about the new 1/48 scale Tamiya TIger?

My first kit when getting back into the hobby was a Tamiya early Tiger 1.Went together like a dream and made for an impressive display model.
