I have decided to try and use acrylic paints for the first time, and am wondering how they will work with enamels. I plan to paint the cockpit with acrylics; will I be able to overspray with a dull lacquer? And will I be able to paint enamel parts over an acrylic base? Anything I should be on the lookout for? Thanks very much in advance for any help.

I’ve sprayed acrylics over enamels with no problems, but be careful when spraying enamels over acrylics. I’ve seen paint curdle, crack, and peel.
Dullcote is ok over acrylics if you allow it time to cure, usually 24-48 hours. Apply it in thin coats instead a heavy one.
I now use acrylics for just about everything, and have given up on Dullcote. I now use Future mixed with Tamiya X-21 Flat base. Swanny (the Future Guru) did an article in this month’s FSM, including mixing ratios.

I try to avoid painting enamels over acrylics like the plague!!! However, if I absolutely can’t help it…then I spray or brush on some future, and let it completely try before I paint the enamel. I haven’t had any problem with it yet, but have only done it a couple of times.
Thank for the tips… I’ll be extra careful with them.
