Getting back into the hobby and want some advice. I am finishing a P47. I applied a coat of Pledge Future, set the decals, and will probably try my hand at doing some weathering. When all is completed, I would like to “tone down” the shine from the Future. Has anyone had any experience with the Krylon Matte finish? I saw that you can get it in an acrylic formula. Thanks for your advice! P.S. one more thing: I have never used an airbrush before, but would like to. I am looking at the Master airbrush and compressor on Amazon for a reasonable price as a starter…any experience with this? Thanks for your help and happy modeling!!
Look in Hobby Lobby. You can pick up a Iwata for a decent price with a 40% coupon. tcpglobal.com is another site with reasonable prices for airbrush sets, compressors, and accessories. I got my compressor from that site for $80.

By buying the best airbrush and the best compressor you can afford, you’ll end up with saving more.

I wasted my money on 2 successive "starter " AB’s before I finally got a good one and as of now I never use the starters. So wait and save up for the good one in the first place. I bought a Badger Patriot gravity feed at Michaels with the 40% off coupon and am very happy with it.
I have used the Krylon matt clear and it is okay. Ordinarily I prefer Testors dullcoat but Krylon works in a pinch. However, for a semi-matt I like polyurethane semi-matt. Easy to find in small cans and I can thin it and use in airbrush. That way I can vary the sheen on different parts of airframe.
Took you advice and bought a new Badger Patriot on Ebay for $64!

I hope you’re as happy with your Badger Patriot as I am. Good price too. It’s much easier to clean that my siphon feed “starters” to boot so I use it more often on small stuff than the hand brush methods as well.

-10. Thanks for the advice, Jay Jay. Do you have any experience with using Humbrol acrylics in your airbrush? I have several bottles and am wondering what is the best way to airbrush with them. Also if possible, can you list the steps you take to change colors with your Badger? Take care!
105 is my clear coat brush only … Great brush .
