achronims

I feel silly asking but what the heck does sd.kfz mean anyway.

“Conscientous objecters?. No way, look if you don’t want to pull on the little people fine. You don’t haveto like it, but you have to show up” (name the movie.)

Hi Rabiteatsnake
It would be silly to wonder & ‘Not’ ask…
the acronym sd.kfz stands for SonDer.KraftFahrZeug,
literaly but clumsily: Special Power Driven Vehicle,
usually but not exclusively applied to Military spec vehicles.
equivalent to british MV numbers, or the US system of M numbers,
'though why you can have an M1 tank, rifle, a/c, & uncle tom cobbley and all, but I digress…
Jon UK

To expand on what Jon states, Germany was under the Treaty of Versailles after WW1 and was limited in what they could develop as far as weapons of war. They couldn’t call these things tanks or panzers in the 30s so they developed the “special purpose vehicle” term to mask the true purpose of the vehicles.
