Hey fellow modelers!
I am building the Revell Monogram 1/48 B17, and I’m totally new to using photo etch parts. I got the Eduard interior set, and it came with an acetate film for the instrument panel dials. It looks great right behind the photo etch instrument panel, but when I test fit it to the kit instrument panel housing…sandwich like…you can’t see the dials anymore! I even painted the surface of the kit part white, and the dials still pretty much disappear. Am I not doing something right? Help!
John
Works best if you paint the acetate white on the backside. Helps pop out the detail on the instruments.
Thanks Rick…never would have thought of that!!
Just wanted to let everyone know that Rick’s idea worked great, and the details on the film really pop out now. Thanks again, Rick!

John, You’re Welcome [:)]. Lots of experience & knowledge from many of the guys & gals on this Forum. If in doubt, post a Query and chances are you’ll get some good replies.
Quick question: why paint the acetate at all? Why not simply use a piece of paper cut to the correct size? Would the paper be too thick?
Regards,
I’ve used a piece of white .005 styrene sheet, glue down the acetate with white glue. After that dries, I glue the P/E panel with white glue, then trim the sheet styrene with a small set of scissors. Sounds like painting the acetate would be alot easier.
What glue would you use for the acetate?
I use elemers glue. It dries with out visual residue.
I usually cover the front of the acetate with a thin coat of Future, then lay the PE part down on top of it. If needed, I usually back the whole panel with a pre-cut piece of sheet styrene for added strength. It prevents the copper from bending when the fuselage halves are closed. For this, I use TINY drops of CA, applied where there are no dials.
Hope this helps.
