I started putting together the Ace T-90 today. As far as fit goes- wait, fit? What the hell is fit? It comes with the T-72 upper hull, so the fron fender things must be removed and 2 correct fenders are provided to add in. MUCH blending with putty is needed here. Upper hull to lower hull fit is nonexistent. when I get to glueing them together I’ll figure that one out… Gun barrel comes in one piece, must be drilled out. Tracks are poorly done link and length, I will cover up any errors with mud. Not too many pieces, it would be a pretty quick build if any of them fit. Sprue gates are numerous, and often bigger than some of the detail parts. Aforementioned detail parts are often quite clunky. Plastic is alternately very hard, or evry soft, (I believe the hull is moulded in a different plastic than the rest of the piece- the color is a bit different.) A dremel tool has already come in handy this build.
It’s gonna be one helluva challenge. Anyway I thought I would give a brief review of the only T-90 kit on the market.
I just completed their 2S9 Nona and although not a ‘shake and make’, I didn’t have all that many difficulties with assembly. Nothing that couldn’t be overcome anyway and was a fun kit to build…
I assume that the comment about the tracks is due to the fact that they gap at the front rather than being tensioned around the drive sprocket. While I’m not building this tank, I am looking for suggestions from experienced armor builders as to the best way to get “rubber band” tracks to look good.
I concur with all of the “nice build” messages, especially since this is in 1/72!
The vehicle is being shown in the firing/airdrop position where the suspension is lowered for better stabilazation therefore there is no track tension per-se. The PE tracks were the hardest part of this kit.
Wow, Tankmaster7! Sounds like your fighting the kit, not building it. Just remember to enjoy it and share some photos please.
To bad there isn’t a T-90 in 1/35 or 1/48 scale. At least not yet.
Yeah. It’s a monster, but it should turn out nicely if you have the commitment to stick it out. I am going to mount mine on a simple abse. I’ll get pics for you guys eventually.
Just when I thought it was safe to go back to sleep… You’ve just brought back all the nightmares!
Insert combat flashback here
Welcome to the world of ACE model building! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt! I simpathize with what you’re going through. I’ve done the same with all the T-55 tanks from them that I’ve built. Keep plugging T, it only gets better once you get past the hull and roadwheel assemblies.
Looking forward to seeing pics; I want to get this kit someday as well.
