Modified to be a plain ole’ TBF-- as it was from Hornet and sent to Midway in time for the battle. This was the only surviving aircraft from the Hornet contingent sent from Midway Isdland to attack the Kudo Butai.

Impeccable modeling there Jeeves! Just a beautiful look…and you nailed the camo! Maybe a bit shiny and no exhaust stains and you might drill out the exhaust pipe.[tup][tup][tup]!
Thanks for sharing!
Jeeves, LOOKING GOOD! I likey. You did a great job! Thanks for the pics…Harv
Looks great. THat is going to be my next build
Nice work on my favorite a/c kit of all time…
Thanks everyone!

The dullcote might be a bit wet still when I took these…
These Avengers were brand new when they were sent out to Midway so I kept the weathering to a minimum…not sure how much exhaust stains there would be for just a few hours of flight?? The exhaust pipe is actually hollowed out quite a bit-- I just need to add some dark washes to it for depth methinks…
Thanks for the replies everyone!
Great job Jeeves I like the avenger.
Jeeves, great looking build[tup]
Any problems with the build? I have heard that it can be a hard build.
Well done Mike! I have a TBF in my stash, and I plan to build it in the same scheme. Thanks for sharing the pics! [tup]
Nice one, Jeeves.
Very nice work on another of the “Grumman Ironworks” planes. She was quite a workhorse throughout the war.

Beautiful build, Jeeves. Love the camo scheme. I’m going to have to suck it up and try one of the bi/tri-color schemes one of these days.
And after having spent the better part of 2 days trying to make a bird all dirty and faded, I kinda like seeing a factory-fresh plane.

Niicely done! Luckily 8-T-1 was fairly well photographed at the end of the battle. You did a good job on the armament of the early production TBF, but missed the change in the lower rear fuselage window. The oval window you painted over was actually differant size and shaped on the initial batch of TBFs.
Thanks everyone!
Roy–the fit was a bit fiddly between the fuselage halves…but that could easily have been my error…there is a lot of stuff that AM features that has to fit in between those halves.

Actually, I thought that window was absent looking at pics of other TBFs?? I basically installed it and painted over it-- but I should’ve probably tried to fill it in a bit better-- always something to learn in these builds, right??
Truly a beautiful build, Jeeves! The darned thing looks as if it’s just waiting for the flight crew to pile in and run her engine up! Thanks for sharing, I sure hope mine looks half that good when I do her!

That is just ooo so sweet![dinner] [tup]

Must admit that is one good looking model. Everytime I see one I want to break one out of the stash and start it. It also reminds me of something my Uncle told me Years ago before he past on. He was in the Pacific during WW II and was there at the end. I don’t remember what island he was on, of the thousands in that big spot of blue that the pacific is. But he told me about them starting to fly in all types of aircraft, many being almost brand new. He said that they dug big holes in the ground with bulldozers and just pushed the planes in and covered them up. He said that they did it with Jeeps, trucks, cars, amminition, etc. He said that at the time as a 20 something year old, all he could do was think about coming home. He told me this as we were sitting in the back yard waiting for the sun to pass over the yard arm, so we could have a cold one. He said " you know Mike thinking back on that now I get a tear in my eye". I must admit I did too. We destroyed so many aircraft that were brought over here (many One offs) after the war it should have been be criminal. And on that note why don’t we have a flying wing bomber to look at, the tax payers paid for them? Sorry guys I’m off the soapbox
Mike
That’s a great looking Avenger.
