Accurate Minatures Corvette Grand Sport

Hi Guys[:)]

I just got back from a model show in Columbus Ohio and found an Accurate Minatures Corvette Grand Sport which I’ve heard is very rare. Does anyone have any experience building the kit (friends have told me that their aircraft kits are great)? Anything I should watch out for? I haven’t built many car models and don’t want to screw it up so any help would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, what would be the closest Tamiya Spray in the can paint color to use for the Nassau Blue Metalic Body?

Thanks

Charlie

Charlie,

Al Jones reviewed this kit in the January 1996 issue of FSM. The review’s in the online archive; click on “Workbench Reviews” in the bar to your left and go from there. Al’s review is very thorough and I’m sure it’ll help.

I wonder if Tamiya’s “Mica Blue” would work. I used it on my Subaru 360; here’s a shot so you can see what it looks like:

I hope this helps!

Hi! Thanks for the follow-up and the information. I checked out the article you spoke of and it’s really helpful. Question, How did you find which old issue the article was in? I tried refinding the article again using the query/subject window on the workbench homepage and couldn’t find it.

I will also check the paint you suggested at my hobbyshop to see how it matches up with the Monogram Slot car that just came out.

Again, thanks for your help![:)]

Charlie,

I’ve had that kit for YEARS…sadly, unbuilt…but the only complaint that I’ve heard about it is that the suspension is off. It needs to be lowered just a tad. Other than that I can’t wait to dive into it!
I’ve built three Accurate Miniatures aircraft kits and personally I think they they are great! The only complaint from that I have about them is that the instructions are not like your average kit, there’s a full blown detailed description for each and every step, and only an exploded view of the assembly process.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re easy to follow, but its different, and we fear change…
I’d like to know how the construction of the 'vette goes. Keep us posted!

Hi! Thanks for the information especially the warning about the suspension. I’m really getting ansi to build it the more I see the box sitting on the shelf. I just need to get over my fears of painting a gloss finish and get on with it. I took Matt’s suggestion and checked out the Tamiya Mica Blue at my hobbyshop. I held it up to the Monogram Slot car and the can top looks just alittle to dark for it - needs to have a little more gray. Maybe if I use a silver undercoat? TS-19 Metalic Blue looks to be too dark. I like the Tamiya spray for gloss finishes - it’s the only one I’ve been able to get a good finish from. I’ll have to wait and see.

Thanks

Hi! thanks for the information on the translucent paint. I have both white and gray primer so I’ll probably go with the gray since my friend told me that the Mica Blue needed abit more gray. Currently working on a Revell Corvette C5-R which is prepainted black and silver. I’ll start the Grand Sport when it’s done and I’ll let you know. Let me know if you start yours, I’d like to see how yours comes out before finishing mine. Which car do you have, the #2 or #4? I have #2. I’ve been looking so long for this car, I hope I don’t screw it up!

Thanks[:)]
