I’ve recent bought the title model and a buddy of mine swears by the Aber photoetch set that was made for the 1/35 Tamiya model, but another says that the engine grills (and some other items) are slightly off when applied to the Academy model. Have any of you encountered similar problems? Is there a better detail set out there for me to use when working on both exterior and interior?
I would like to know the same thing. I’ve been itching for some photo-etch parts for my Academy Tiger but can only find them for the Tamiya set. I guess most of the exterior parts would be OK with minor fitting?

I suppose, but I want this to be the piece de resistance of my collection and the last thing I’d want to have happen is to get halfway done and the parts be off scale. Has anyone built the kit with the Aber detail set?
Eduard makes two sets for the Academy Tigers. #35498 is and exterior set, #35500 is for the interior. I’m not sure if the exterior set is for the early or mid model. If you really want to make a “show stopper”, you might want to read over the articles on the Missing Links site that talk about accurizing the interiors. One is on the early, the other on the mid.
Doesn’t the Academy kit come with etched grills? My Academy Tiger did. The Tamiya Grills in fact are too big for the Academy deck. I just checked them. I do believe that Eduard makes an etched set for both the interior, and exterior for the Academy Tiger. You can check out the instructions and some pics at Eduard’s website:
EDUARD PE sets are much easier to use , especially if this is to be your first PE set , the ABER is so over the top , the parts are infinatly tiny at times , I have done a few of each so far , and the finished product from both will be great . If you feel up to the challenge definatly go with aber , ( buy the eduard grills if the fit is not right ). You just have not experienced shear frustration in modeling until you have done an Aber tool clamp and clasp set , I will leave you on that note !
Thanks a lot for your help, guys. What I’ll probably do is get the Eduard set and use the included Academy grills to avoid the size difference. I’ll post a thread on the progress once I get the kit started.
