I recently picked up the model from my hobby store and I was wondering if there were any huge problems i should look out for, i was also wondering if anyone could show me a pictue of what Sinai Gray looks like? (sorry if there any spelling problems im 14 and on vacation!)
Hey there, welcome to the forum.
I built the Academy Super Sherman a couple of years back, and I did not have a single issue to deal with. I’m not sure about the accuracy of the kit, as I’ve heard the DML offerings are slightly better, but as far as construction, it was probably one of the easiest builds I’ve had to do. Just be careful when removing the headlight guards from the sprue. They’re pretty easy to break.
As for Israeli colour information, I’d post a specific thread on that, and you may get better answers. I’m not sure myself, as I’ve heard far too many variations.
Both Dragon and Academy have things wrong with them, however the academy kit is the more accurate of the two. Dragon has better surface detail but also some glaring errors.
Thanks everyone for the input! Thats good news that its an easy build, its my first model in a couple months (school). I will make sure i carfully remove the headlights thanks for pointing that out zokissima!
OH!!! thats perfect! thanks much now i can paint!
I have the kit, as yet unbuilt, but the only thing that really jumped out at me was the texture of the cast surfaces on the hull and turret. I expect that carfeul sanding and re-texturing with liquid cement should take care of it.
thats the point of the texturing, it was cast so thats how it really was and the weld seam on the underside of the turrent was nice, one more thing, just sand off the numbering on the turret roof
Hi tikrit kid.
I too built this kit a couple of years back and it is a great kit.
As already stated, you will need some minor clean up to fix the texturing, but thats about it.
Oh, nearly forgot. The canvas conver on the mantle needs some major reworking. The top and bottom halves of the mantle don’t allign or match. You’ll need to fill and rescribe/re-texture it.
As for Sinai Gray, the color varies depending on who you speak too. It goes from a greyish color to yellowish color.
When painting mine, someone who served in the IDF mentioned that the tie down points are sometimes painted red enabling easy location during times of low/limited visibility. That’s what I went for anyway.
Enjoy and don’t forget to post some progress pics!!!
Cheers,
Jurgen.
hey thanks for that! i think i remember spoting a pic with red tie downs on the tank so that would make perfect sense, i already became familiar with the stupid canvas cover (things like this that i absolutly hate) but thanks for the heads up anyway!
