Academy F/A-18C Hornet - Best Ever Hobby Lobby $40 Deal!

I rarely start a topic, but couldn’t believe my luck in this week’s Hobby Lobby 50% off sale, and have to share. I had been very tempted to buy an Academy 1/32 scale F/A-18C but couldn’t quite bring myself to spend the $148. At half price, I almost did it, but had already bought a Hobbycraft 1/32 P-38J/L at $55, a Hobbycraft 1/32 F-4U-1D at $35, a Hasegawa 1/48 RF-4B Marine Phantom at $21.50, and even a Polar Lights Captain America for $8. Taking one last trip to the Hobby Lobby, I found a 1/32 F/A-18C that didn’t have a price tag. I asked them how much it would cost, and the manager phoned from the back of the store to tell the cashier that it would be $79.99. When she told me what the manager said, she then said that with the discount it would be about $40. I told her that I thought they cost a bit more than that, but she told me that was the price. I ended up paying $39.99 plus tax for 900 parts, 2 huge decal sheets, and the feeling that I had just had another birthday present! I have found that the people at Hobby Lobby go to great pains to please, and would rather err in the customer’s favor than dissapoint. Love those sales, love those people!

How do I get a Hobby Lobby here in New Jersey? That is a great deal!

Now come on now…that’s just down right disshonest[}:)] You should be ashamed[V] …lucky dog[:D]

I did feel a twing of guilt, but managed to temporarily get over it!! I finally decided that the store manager must not have been able to find the price and just quoted the price of the other “big” kits like the Revell B-1 and the B-36. The funny thing is, a similar thing happened one other time. They had mismarked 3 Acc Min B-25C/D’s at $24.99 instead of $44.99. When I got to checkout, I told the lady that they were supposed to be $44.99 and she told me (in a friendly way) that the price marked was the price she would go by. Since it was a sale week, I got them for for $12.49 each. I guess if my sins are going to catch up with me, it might has well be for my plastic addition rather than something worse!

I bet you will have one in the near future, the way they have been growing. I just looked at http://www.hobbylobby.com/site3/store/locations.cfm , and it looks like for now, you would have to go to Ohio or Virginia! I live in NC, but just happened to see one when I was visiting in Memphis. They were having a sale then, and I ended up carrying about 10 models home with me. Been hooked ever since!

Zoiks, that is a good deal!
But I got ya beat: Trumpeter 1/32 F-105D for 3000 yen (about $28.00 USD) at the LHS.

Comparing the two kits, however, I’d have to say that you got the better value! [^]

I guess we can thank you when their prices go up.[:D] j/k good deal.

I love the 105D; if I ever find them for $28, I will buy 2 or 3 and go on a building frenzy!!

Gerald. I hate you. Haha you lucky dog. Just don’t rub it in too hard[;)]

GB you did score ! I cleaned out my Hobby Lobby last week, I bought like 8 kits for 70 dollars ! But your F-18 deal has me beat. Have fun with the F-18, but I bet you just toss it in the stack with your growing collection of unbuilt kits.[(-D]

That’s almost like stealing it ! Enjoy the build.

Regards, Rick

When will we see a Hobby Lobby in Germany?

Because I live and work herer in Germany, I’m forced to find most of my deals online, though I have been able to get a couple kits at good prices on the economy.

I pre-ordered the Trumpeter 1/48 FW200 Condor for $74 online through Squadron. I thought this was a pretty good deal considering the pre-order price at Great Models and Hobbyland is at least $97. I also got several great kits through Great Models recent 50% sale like the Trumpeter 1/32 TBF/M-1C Avenger for $65.

But these don’t come close the your Hobby Lobby deal.

They clearance their kits regularly, too. In Memphis, I got one of the AmTech Ju-88 kits for only $2, and an Academy 1/48 F-14 for only $5! That was the day they had their 1/32 Academy F-18 marked at $32.99 for the retail price. Being in retail, I didn’t buy it, but told the manager that they had better check their price. But when it’s on clearance, I’m in trouble with the wife. I did get that F-18 later on the half price sale, It rang for $52 and I had a $30+ gift card balance, so it only cost me about $20 after all.

You’re just making me feel guilty; I live in North Carolina and I have TWO Hobby Lobby stores within twenty minutes of my house.

I got a even better deal as hobby lobby had the model on clearance for $50 and with a 40% off it was only $30!!! that was an excellent deal!

I’m up in fayetteville and our store sucks. I haven’t scene any of these kits.
