Academy F-22A- short shot!

Pulled my 1/48 Academy F-22A out of the stash tonight, hoping to start on it. I was looking at the wings, deciding how best to prepare and mask them when the time came. I noticed something just didn’t look quite right…

The wingtips ended up as a short-shot! They looked so even, I never even noticed them before. Until I looked closely at the bottom fuselage/wing part that is.

Has anyone else run into this problem with this kit? I emailed the photos to MRC, hope they will be able to replace it.

OMG, no way… I am going to have to look at my 22 now!! Wonder if you can contact a US dist for Academy? Keep me posted Frank!

Man, that wierd.

[dto:] how often does that happen??

Man, that’s going to take a lot of putty!

I had that happen once with a clear canopy on a Hasagawa kit that was missing about 25% off one side. I lucked out though as I had a spare from an identical kit I had to scrap after a work-bench disaster. (Save those parts!!!)

Hope you can get a replacement for it.

Short shots are rare these days, but they can occur. Basically a breakdown in the quality control as the sprue should have been binned as soon as it was removed from the mold. I have no experience with their customer service, but hopefully they will replace it.

Regards, Rick

Get on the horn with MRC’s customer service department. Email them the pictures!

That’s not good. I should probably have a look at my kit. Hopefully MRC will replace it for you. Keep us posted please.

That is a real problem…for the money spent on that kit, those things shouldn’t happen. I bought the same kit and it took 4 men and a boy to hold the fuselage in place while I glued it up! Major warpage.

WOW, that’s a pocket full of suck!!! Have the same problem on Revells 1/32 F-15 (bottom wing half), tried contacting on several occasions, …no joy.

Time to be a modeler, I suppose. At least you have the other wing half as a template. A bit of styrene sheet and some skill and you’ll be rocking and rolling.

Howdy Frank,

Checked my kit and everything is ok… I’d definitely get on the horn with MRC as well as email the pix!! We all feel your pain bro… Hang in there

Am I the only person who had absolutely no problems with this kit?

And I am not a complete hack at building models.
