Academy 1:35 Abrams Tank WIP

Thats so cool!!!

Toshi

I definitely will!

Thank you so much,

Toshi

Thank you for welcoming me, that’s very kind of you sir. I watch therapists everyday that deal with this, my hats off to you to be able to help people with TBI. I got injured almost 5 years ago 5/5/10. I don’t remember anything from the last 4 and a half years. LOL! Sometimes that can be a good thing. I just don’t get mad anymore, like the 1980’s song; “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” By Bobby McFarron.

Whats so weird is I can remember everything in detail down to the date and time before my accident. Now is a different story. Anyway thank you so much for your support and thank you for the read and reply.

Toshi

I do recall the first one. I had no idea about Gamera and i used to think it was Godzilla in the pic. Then i think someone asked you a while back and thats when i realised.

Here’s a few more photos in regards to the M1A1. My difficulty is that I’m so ignorant of the workings of a tank, I have no idea as to where what goes nor why. I am having fun? Hell yah, as I’ve been told time and time again, this is a key component to building Models.

So far, it’s very tedious and interesting as I never would have thought on simple every day use of items like smoke grenades. Now I know. I’m sorry that my build is slow. I’m usually burning a path in 3 to 5 days in building an aircraft, with the tank it’s new for me. Also as a note, today is Sunday Football Day! I’m a huge fan of all 32 teams in every division. Now you know what I do on Sunday’s, Monday night and Thursday night. LOL! Please view the progress below.

Toshi

You seem to be doing a good job there, take your time, there is no rush. You can show us all that you are actually mortal. If there is anything you are not sure about on the parts of the tank, just ask. As well as plenty of armour builders there’s also plenty of guys here who have worked on or around the real thing.

LOL!! I can’t stop laughing about the mortal part! LOL!! Thank you Bish! I will ask for answers, when I model, I gain fine motor skills, cognition, and I notice that while building the kit, I must reference certain parts via the Internet. I learn so much just by building as an example this tank. I had no idea that it had “Smoke Grenades”. I’m sure there must be other hidden tactical items the M1A1 carries.

I’ve even seen the variants, one can busy themselves a very long time just with the many variants of this marvelous Titan. Some things I learned, turbine engines, 40 to 50 miles an hour, etc. Wow! Once again, thank you and fellow forum members.

Toshi

Hey Toshi, looking good so far.

Just a quick note. The smoke grenade launchers should angle forwards, towards the front of the tank. As they are, they’re pointing backwards.

If you’re doing a USMC tank, these launchers (8 shot) are appropriate, but if you’re doing an Army tank, the 6 shot launcher should be used. This is one of the primary distinguishing features between the tanks used by the resepective services.

Lol, slow Toshi!?! You’ve got the thing half built in the same time it’d take me to get the cellophane off the box!

Really, she’s coming along great. As the guys said it’s good therapy as long as you dont’ lose your temper and throw the kit at the wall!

Most of not all modern armour has these smoke grenade launchers. As Phil has said, they should be pointing forward. They are intended to be fired ahead of the vehiucle as it advances towards the objective. Not sure if other tanks have this feature, but the British Challenger tank can inject fuel onto the warm exhausts which creates a huge white cloud that it reverses through. These modern tanks are packed full of goodies you would not believe.

I was reading the other posts about your injury. Its relaly nice to hear that this is helping. And not only do you get to build some great models, you get to hang out with us lot.

Win win [;)]

Thank you sir. I will fix the issue now, that’s the Japanese in me, we read backwards hence, everything else goes backwards! LOL!! Mrs. Toshi says; “Stupid Japanese Old Man”! LOLOLOL! Thank you for visiting my thread and the read and reply.

Toshi

LOLOL!! Thank you for the laugh and the visits that you’ve always supported me in. My days of anger are long behind me at this point of life!

Toshi

Looks okay so far, Toshi. Stick to those instructions, my friend lol. But yes, ask questions!

Haha, I that was a picture of you Gam. I thought, “boy, you look kinda like George Peppard” LOL

LOL, I wish! I look more like Dwight Scultz- AKA Murdock!!!

Yes, I will continue to do so. Thanks for the read and reply.

Toshi

OMGosh Toshi, you crack me up. TOSHI ain’t afraid of no kit!!!

Build on my friend !! And the smoke grenades are facing the correct way provided you plan on covering your retreat. LOL!! [:D]

BK

It’s looking really good Toshi.I have a few armor kits but most are 1/76-1/72 scale. Keep up the good work and you’ll be commanding that tank in battle before you know it!

I will admit, at first I was hesitant as a child would be on the first day of school. But once the child acclimates to the classroom, it’s all good from there. I tried to start it twice and twice I went ahead and kind of started my next project, a Skyraider.

Building the M1A1 was somewhat new to me as I don’t understand the nomenclature of tanks. Thanks to you and forum members, I asked questions and did my research dutifully. I have some photos below of my current progress.

Thank you my friend, you’ve always given me the support to my builds. This means much to me and is more valuable than any book can teach!
