Academy 1/25 Jagdpanther ?'s

Hello All,
Wondering if anyone has any experience, advice, comments, or criticisms about the Academy 1/25th scale Jagdpanther.
Thanks to any and all who may be able to help.
Joe

I have heard they are o.k. kits, but if memory serves they are old.

Wonder if they’re old Tamiya molds? They seem to buy alot of them. I don’t think there are many options for the Jagd in that scale.

I agree, I think Academy and Tamiya are the only 1/25 kits out. I dont know if there is anything in terms of aftermarket for 1/25.

Hello ! The Academy kit is based on the old Tamiya kit . Overall , it is a good representation , of the JagdPanther. The bad side of the kit is the interlocking tracks , they seem to be abit oversized , and the roadwheels , they are not all that accurate . But given it’s size , you can add alot of super detailing , with out going blind . So if you are into larger scale armor , I would go for it . It is the later JagdPanther , so no Zimm! I have built several of the old Tamiya 1/25 Panthers , and they turned out quite nice .

It’s a nice, easy-to-build kit that pretty much looks like a Jagdpanther.
Academy’s kit is a blatant copy of Tamiya’s old JP (not “based on,” and not cast from Tamiya’s molds…it’s just a straight copy), but as such, it’s a pretty good model.

Academy has re-released their JPs with well-molded but stiff rubberband tracks. The older Tamiya links are less authentic detail-wise, but I prefer them for their better overall look. Nice sag and all that.
The sponsons are bottomless, but that’s easily fixed with a bit of sheet styrene.

Here’s a pic of my old Tamiya version, started about 5 years ago, slightly detailed-up, but never finished. Actually, it’s just waiting for weathering. That’s why it looks like a shiny hot rod!
I chose the gray, olive drab, and dark yellow camo based on some pix and descriptions I found.

Gotta love that showroom shine!

Is that Turtle Wax [:D] I agree that it builds up to a nice model!

I like that grey green camo, it looks good.

All you need is a little arour all on the road wheels for that total effect.
[:D]

Academy or not, it still looks awesome.
Beautiful build Brian.

Hey All,
Thanks for the replies.
The box says it can be made as an early or late version. Also has flexible tracks and movable torsion bars.
The box definitely looks impressive. I just want to make sure there are no major faults or inaccuracies.
Thanks,
Joe

Stunning camo Brian. I like that 3-tone. Diffo.

Hello All !
The new edition of Jagdpanther has part from old models and some parts from new kit common for Panther G and Jagdpanter(2 versions) .You can built early version or first of late version. I dont know why back wall from last version( Panther with flamevernichter) doesnt matching to early kit. There you have few milimeter fissure.Track from new version are awful ,if you want to do RC vehicle.I will to do metal tracks soon. Im waiting for PE parts too.My old edition of JP ive rebuilt a little. It is not ready to this moment, but soon will completed.
My vote is for 1-25 scale!!![:)]

Hey, JHulk,

Beautiful piece of work! Looks like a parade-fresh vehicle for some Nuremburg rally, all shiney and clean before it heads for the battlefield! This is the Tamiya kit? I saw one in the display case of my regular store a great many years ago and thought it was very impressive ‘in the flesh.’ I’ve always fancied one of these. If Academy is even half-way decent, it should be just as visually appealing. Okay, there may not be so much AM stuff for 1:25 (like none…) but scratchbuilding comes to the fore and the scale is big enough for stripstock and such to do a decent job.

Great work!

Thanks for the kind words about my shiny JP, folks!
Yup, it’s the old original Tamiya kit I bought cheap many years ago (you can’t do that now!) and started about 5 years ago.
Piter, you’re going to make metal tracks? Now, that would be a welcome addition to this old kit! The tracks from either version (old Tamiya and Academy copy, new Academy copy) are the weakest links (pun intended), so a new set of tracks would really bring this baby up to speed.

Hello Brian.
Short answer here and private message after.
All should to know that is very important difference between new and old kit.
It is sprocket wheel-old has 12 teeth, new has 18 teeth. This moment You can`t use old separated tracks. What to do? I will do metal tracks and resin to paper-card models the same moment!!!
