There was some interest last year in a second go round for an M1 Abrams group build. Some inquiries were recently made so enthusiasm is still there. Could I have some indication of who might be interested in a second Abrams build, when you might be interested in starting and over what period? I would be more than happy to organise it, and I would love to finally build that Trumpeter -A1 HA!
I’m just tidying up a USMC M1A1 w/ mine plow but I still have a Trumpeter 5 in’ 1 I’m planning on building as a M1 Panther II, so I might be able to be pursuaded. I still have the rest of my current M1, a 1/5 R.E. Lee, JP Velociraptor, 2010 Corvette to get out of the way and I’m still signed up for 1943 and Operation Overlord GB’s as well as the Niel Armstrong GB that starts in July so I would vote on a later start date personally.
Hi, Mike, the last GB we done together was the 8wheeler acthraden a couple of years ago. I haven’t built a kit in over a year, I have a panther II mine vehicle would that be alright to enter into the GB, I’m not 100% sure if I’m ready to start cutting sprues again but a GB would be a great way to go. Terry.
Earnest, Corvettemike and Terry – it’s great to see this much interest! I think we have the makings of an excellent GB here, there’s enough projects mooted so far to justify getting a build going. CM brings up committments and schedules, which is always a major factor, I know I have way more on my plate than is good, but that’s really always the case… How do others feel about timing? We’re well through February, would a mid-year start be a good idea? Or a bad one, given that it would be summer in the northern hemisphere by then?
Fine By me Mike, I have my competitions in May so a start after that would be fine, I know we have to allow for other members timing but count me as flexible, I’m strongly thinking of doing it for practice. Terry
I’m sure it can be done like the 8 wheeler, allow a bit of time for late starts and finishes and everything should fall into place. I’m gonna start looking up a bit of research to be ready. Thanks for hosting Muke. Terry
I like the midyear to midyear since I’m a slow builder. I should be done with both of my current projects by mid March or April so that would work for me.
I’d love to do another, I’ve learned a lot about them since my build last year. Any time over the summer would be cool for me, that’s really the only time we get decent painting weather 'round here.
Hi, Mike, last night I took the Panther II out of the stash, I can’t remember the exact reason I bought it in the first place, maybe because it said new tooling on the box, well not being too familiar with modern subjects I can now confirm that I will be a 90% on for the GB. This kit looks brilliant but complex. Terry
The Panther II being all new tooling depends on whether you got the Dragon (all new) or Trumpeter (old with some new bits) kit. Dragon’s is better, but I got the Trumpeter one real cheap. Dragon gives you an accurate M1IP upper hull whereas Trumpeter gives you their old M1A1/A2 hull with some (not all) of the necessary cosmetic parts to make it into an M1IP.
