This one has been sitting on my “back burner” for far too long. It’s Monogram’s 1/48 C-47 “Skytrain.”
I was having trouble confirming the location of the intakes above the engines. They didn’t fit well, so I sepatated the back from the front. The front fit well, but I had to file an angle to get the back piece to fit flush.
This morning, I started masking the windows. This took about ten minutes with Scotch frosty tape. I then masked off the Invasion Stripe areas, and sprayed the white. The areas to remain white were masked, and I sprayed the Neutral Gray (color od Eagles acrylic). The fabric control surfaces were masked off, and a lightened Netural Gray was sprayed on them. I then masked off the bottom, and applied the OD (Model Master enamel). This was followed by Faded OD (Model Master enamel) on the fabric control surfaces. The black portion of the Invasion Stripes was next, followed by the de-icer boots. Plenty of touchup was needed along the way, and I still have to touchup the whites of the stripes. That’s for another day. The marathon painting session is over for the day.
Hey Bill,
She sure is coming along…!!! The lighting of the paints that were used on the fabric hit the spot. Nice touch…!!
Once all is done, are you going to do any sort of work with photo shop with this build??
Thanks for sharing…
Flaps up, Mike
Butz - this will be on a tarmac base, with figures. It would be possible to put it “in flight,” since all I’d need to do is digitally retract the gear. I’ll have to see if I can do a night scene, with searchlights (Photoshop has a lighting effect for creating them)
obiwan - the C-47/DC-3 was far ahead of it’s time. A true Classic.
berny - this aircraft was part of the 89 TCS, 438 TCG, used on the night of June 5/6, 1944. I don’t know if it carried troops of the 101st, but I painted the “Screamin’ Eagle” on the figure’s shoulders.
Bravo, Pix! You make this bird come to life, and I think I will do my C-47 next (when the B-57B is done). Thanks for sharing your work with us, a beautiful job, as always! And thanks for the reference links, also!
How about a “Boarding Ladder”? How else would a fully equiped paratrooper get up to the level of the interior of the aircraft. I’ve got a 1/48th scale boarding ladder that is easy to build out of 1/16" scrap stock, if your interested. Just a thought.
