  1. Is it a nice kit? Accurate and all…

  2. Who do you recommend I go to to purchase the side skirts, I believe the kit comes with armor for around the turret and the braces for the side skirts, but no side skirts.

Thanks team,

Steve

It’s an early J, the late model having the characteristic front hull sides extended into towing pintles; the Dragon kit has this mod. Tamiya’s also has the early exhaust, unlike Dragon’s dual single tube “late” exhausts. I thoroughly enjoyed both kits!

I used the Eduard PE skirts; both the solid “early” skirts on a blown-up early Tamiya J which is shown here in a WIP photo (sorry, all I can offer is this “teaser” shot cuz the article has been bought for publication by FSM!)…

and the mesh skirts on this “Panzer IVJ mit Schmalturm” prototype–this i, by the way, the Dragon kit with a Commander’s Models’ turret; see those pintles?!

You should probably use the solid skirts, as the Tamiya is an early model…I believe both the turrret and sides came together in one package. They’re not difficult to build if you’re familiar with PE, although the mesh skirts are a bit more “fiddly” GOOD LUCK!

Hey Doog,

[%-)] Where’d ya get the “Panzer IVJ mit Schmalturm”?

Steve

Hey Steve,…this is the DML PzIVJ with a resin turret by “Commander’s Models” (I think?!) I built it 4 years ago; I’m pretty sure that’s who did it. The DML kit is pretty easy to find now, and you could use the turret from the DML Panther F, if you can find one. I think Verlinden also had a schmalturm?..

Just make sure you cut off the top hull bullet splash gaurds when you fit the turret as per the prototype, or it won’t fit.

[#toast] Thanks!

I should have read more closely as you had already stated that.
