I just purchased 2 Marder II kits off of Ebay for great prices. What i was wondering what problems are associated with them. The kits that i got are the Tamiya Marder II and the Alan Marder IId. Any help would be appreciated.
I don’t know anything about the Alan kit, but I built the Tamiya one many moons ago. It went together pretty easily and makes into a nice kit. Unfortunately, I can’t rattle off all the inaccuracies. You can add goodies like pe and am barrel. Depends on your taste and budget.
There’s a whole bunch of goodies for the Alan Marder 2D.
From what I remember the gun and the fighting compartment are the weak point of this kit and really need replacing.
There are several aftermarket kits available to handle this job.
Check out R&J Enterprises for the aftermarket kits for the Alan Marder. They know what is needed to bring the kit up to snuff.
Thank you tigerman and latch66 for all the info. The price I paid for these two kits on ebay sounds to me well worth my money. Even if i have to purchase aftermarket accessories it sounds to me that it will be well worth the money for them. [:D][:D][:D]Happy Modelling, Bryan
Latch,
i may be an idiot,
or maybe it is too early for thinking,
but how do you search for items for a particular kit on R&J’s site?
i have an Alan Marder also, and thought i would see what they have,
but i cannot figure out how to find it other than search under every manufacturer
of conversions and accessories that they list.
what did i miss?

The Alan kit has this annoying seam going along the length of the hull sides. Nothing a bunch of putty and sand paper can’t take care of. Another annoying flaw is the exhaust deflector has a bunch of knock out marks on it. The curved surface and small part make it difficult to handle this area. I bought the Italeri Zis-3 Soviet towed gun to replace the kit gun. Of course, I got a great deal on the gun (like $2).
Here’s what you need:

Thanx for the great link ericadeane, now I cant wait to get the kit to be here!!! So I can start spending more money.[:(][:(][:(]
Thanks for the link, Eric. I’ve got a Tamiya Marder II on the shelf. This will definately help me a lot. I’ve got almost all of an Eduard Pz II PE set that I had extra (I had to buy 2) from my Tamiya Pz II F/G. A lot of it should fit the Marder II!
