AB spitting at first touch then ok? Stop and start ...does it again.

Hi Guys,

I’m spraying very thinned mm enamel ghost gray about 75% thinner (Badger 200 NH fine needle). This is a thinned coat over pre shade. The compressor is set at about 20. It spits at first touch then is ok. If I stop and start again it spits again and is then ok again. At every start and stop. I always start off model anyway then bring it in, so no disaster.

Anyone know what may be causing this? Particularly with very thinned paint.

Thanks

A single action airbrush like the 200NH can do this with really thin paint because the needle doesn’t move and the nozzle stays open between strokes. Paint leaks onto the needle tip and blows off when you press for air. It’s worse when the needle is set way back. And, a very low viscosity thinner like lacquer thinner makes it more likely to occur.

Try thinning a little less and setting the needle a little farther forward.

Thank You Don,

That makes sense. I’ll try your advice.
