AB 41 North Africa 1942

Hi all,
just finished putting together this Crielmodel’s AB41.
The “colours” (a way used in the Italian Cavalry to say insignias/markings) are from the III° Gruppo Esplorante Corazzato (G.E.Co.) “Nizza Cavalleria” who was one of the DAK recon units in North Africa.

The only mods I’ve done are:

  • main gun (done with brass tubing)
  • exaust (done with copper tubing and plasticard)
  • antenna (from a guitar string)
  • rear lights glasses (from transparent acetate)
  • decals (not coming with the kit but printed by myself)

As usual any comment/criticism/suggestion is most welcome.
Happy modelling everybody

Oh, I like it a lot. Very interesting vehicle too. Great stuff, Fabio…!

nice build…looks cool![8D]
thanks for sharing te pics with us.

thats a very nice build. i like it alot, what do you use to print the decal yourself, i dont quite know if the process will work on the Deskjet though, im kinda nervous about printing my own and then the ink running.

Beautiful work there scoccia. How much does one of these babies cost?

Thanks everybody for the kind words.

what do you use to print the decal yourself?

Chris: An OKI DP5000 (formerly Alps MD5000) with wax inks so no running risk…

How much does one of these babies cost?

Leoplod: actually I cannot remember the price, that anyway should be quite reasonable. Have a look at www.cirlmodel.it for the correct pricing…

Very nice. That’s a interesting looking vehicle. How are the kits from Cirel? I’ve never done a resin kit before.

How are the kits from Cirel?

Jkeller: in my view they are quite nice, an far a lot better than others I bougth even more expensive. Their filosophy is to deliver resin kits that can be done by beginners too. Of course if you want to detail them you can do it…

Nice looking kit and a clean build! Does the kit have an interior? It’s certainly an interesting variant from the myriad of Tigers, Panthers and Abrams.
I’m assuming the headlights are on the FRONT of the vehicle? Looks like it could go both ways!

Gip Winecoff

that’s an interesting vehicle, I like it looks cool.

Does the kit have an interior?

Gip: yes it comes with almost complete interiors. The kit is quite accurate ia all its aspects in my view.

I’m assuming the headlights are on the FRONT of the vehicle?

It has got them at the front too, but they are “hidden” behind two armoured shields on the sides of the pilot’s viewing hatch.

Looks like it could go both ways!
Yes it can!!! It has got dual steering wheels: one at the front and one at the back and it has all of the wheels 4 steer too. It was fast, reliable and decently armed. The allied reply to the AB41 was the T17E1 “Staghound”…

Another great build Fabio. Very clean and you’re weathering techniques really highlight the vehicle itself.

I’ve never built any of Criel’s products … a nearly complete interior you say … wow.

As always, a pleasure to see your work posted here.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Great looking model Fabio. Thanks for posting pictures of it.

Once more: thanks for the nice words guys. I hope the Italian AFVs bug is going to bite someone else…

Nice work as always Fabio. You don’t many of those here.

Nice modelling…Fabio
Interesting subject matter…something you don’t see everyday.
I like your weathering , subtle and very realistic.

Regards, Dan

Very, very nice Fabio. Thanks for sharing, sometimes we forget the Germans weren’t alone in North Africa.

Great build. I like it alot. The paint job and the wearthering is very good.

Overall it is A+
