Okay this has probably been cover some where on the forum, but I need to know how to scratch the armour for this kit. I do not want to shell out the money for the AM kit, as I have heard that it has problems. Any help would be great.
The HF set doesn’t really have any problems. It is just crazy expensive (in my opinion) for what you get.
The cheap way to do it is to get one of the MiniHobby AAVP7A1 w/EAAK. The kit comes with the EAAK panels. The rest of the kit sucks though. Take the EAAK and put it on the Tamiya kit and throw the rest in the trash or parts bin. The EAAK isn’t perfect and could use some bolts added and is missing a few pieces on the top of the hull, but it sure beats the price of the Hobby Fan set. Here is some more info on them from Vodnik.
I plan on starting my AAVP7A1 soon. I am going all-out on it. I have the Tamiya AAVP7A1 w/UGWS, MiniHobby EAAK, Blast RAMS/RS running gear and tracks, and the HF interior set.
Good luck.
I posted this back in August, Gino and deattilio were VERY helpful, deattilio even provided me some pictures. here’s the link

Hope this helps and goodluck!
I remember riding in these things many, many, many, many times. Being an o311,(Grunt) in the Marines for quite afew years you have to. We didn’t have EAAK until right before I got out. It was just a plain old track. I have an old kit, of when I was in, but need to do a new one for my OIF USMC collection. I have a fellow how has given me a good deal on the EAAK set, tracks, and other AM stuff for around 60.00. I have to sweet talk the boss, to get it. I think she will let me though. We shall see.
I agree with Gino. Good thinks about the add on armor from minihobby, but I made this mistake of buying the kit, and the rest of the kit is garbage. If I’d bought the version that came with the addon armor I’d send it to you for the cost of shipping, but alas I didn’t get that version. After trying to work on the turret after the main hull assembly I threw it all in a bag and said forget it, maybe another time. I’ve since decided to use what parts are there and use them for scratchbuilding sci-fi space ships of my own design.
The minihobby kit of the vehicle itself is GARBAGE. By the time you got it done and looking good by replacing all the boltheads and other inaccuracies with time and money spent you could have built about 10 of any other manufacturer. Buying this kit almost put me off armor completely. Until I read the reviews AFTER I wasted 25 bucks on it.
