I wish to purchase somethign like this. The listing says it’s motorized. To me, “motorized” means it only goes forward ot backward. Nothing more.
I e.mail the seller and ask this question:
“The auction says ‘motorized’, in what way? Is it remote control, controlled by wires, fully turning, or does it just go straight? Are the motors and whatnot included, or is it just the bare kit?”
Their response, such as it is, was this:
“Thank you for your email and inquiry! Please refer to the product
description from the listing and visit the factory’s website at http://www.tamiyausa.com/ for more information about this product”
Which says squat. And Tamiya USA doesn’t even list the product anymore, and a google search turns up only equally unhelpful ebay links.
They are correct. I’ve got this very kit as well as the full R/C Tiger I. While it is a very nice static model, without the R/C gear box guts, it just goes forward and backwards. One of the biggest expenses on the full R/C version is the 4-channel Futuba radio that is required to operate the tank. I believe mine went for around $250.
What I’m looking for is a full option r/c tank. All the goodies included with the package (with the possible exception of the batteries). In other words, I don’t want ot have to buy anything else.
what kind of features would you like tank to have??
The Tamiya tanks are 1/16 but you can also get tanks that are 1/8. At Backyardarmor you can get a Tamiya tank for about $600-700. Its basicly a big plastic kit but with a lot of metal parts aswell and ofcourse a lot of electronics. It has 2 motors and can pivot. It has digital speed regulator, it has sound, recoiling gun, flashing MG and lots of other gadgets.
The 1/8 are very expensive and heavy.
I have a Tamiya Tiger I full option myself and I absolutely love it. You can get al sorts of upgrades for them. but you can have alot of fun with it out of the box.
Apart from the kit all you need is a radio controller and some batteries and your running. As Rob said you need a 4 chanel transmitter and they usually cost around $150-250
The Tamiya Tiger I full R/C kit needs a 4-channel radio because it also has a rotating turret, main gun recoil, machine gun firing, etc. You can get R/C tanks that only use a 2-channel radio (forward, backwards, left, right). It will cost less than the 4-channel type.
If you buy a model, the radio, batteries for the radio (normally 9v or AA) and batteries for the tank itself (large 6v or 7.2v) are almost always sold separately. The big batteries run about $10-20 a piece and if you don’t get a charger with it, that will normally be extra as well.
Thanks for the reply… sounds like they’re pretty expensive… I’d probably go with a 1/16 kit… most likely a Tiger I (if possible.) with the rotating turret and 4-direction motion.
