AAAARRRGH!!! Petition Time!

I’m on a mission. Let’s get together and get the manufactures to put several pieces extra of those tiny parts I seem to have fly into neverland! Tried the empty vac bag, sticky tape, flashlight but no avail! Working on my Marder III, and while dry brushing sent one flying!(could’nt be my fault) We, as money paying consumers deserve better. Fumble fingered patriots unite!!![soapbox][BH]

The carpet monster is an insatiable beast and demands sacrificial styrene on a regular basis…you can’t fight nature on this one I’m afraid… [:D]

and it’s ALWAYS the most important pieces that you lose.

The carpet monster has formed an alliance with my part launching tweezers. I could form a blockade but in the end, I will be the one who gets starved out of model building. I hope they don’t get even more reinforcements. No matter though, I will fight (err “build”) to the end [B)][8]

Tamiya did give me extra little screws in the JGSDF LAV kit good job too cos I lost one.[:D]

Wow, you tried every method I would have suggested. I occasionally notice sometimes they do produce extra pieces, but that seems to be more with PE sets

I lost a part of my Ferdy suspension and after crawling around for 40 minutes, finally found it… If I didn’t find it, that Ferdy would have ended up as a casualty in a diorama.

I drop pieces AAAAAAAAAALL the time…but I work above a tile floor, and I use hemostats rather than tweezers…so while I can commiserate, I also have to gloat a bit at having found a way to beat the carpet monster AND the deadly part-launching tweezers…

I just this week lost one of the tiny pieces for the vision slots on my Dragon 251/7. I’ve had to put that build on hold for a week now while I comb the carpet. If there is no luck today I will just have to go on without it. [BH] Sad to say hemostats havent hurt my ability to propel the tiniest of parts into the netherworld. Good luck gang!

No carpet monster at my place, all nice and shiny wooden flooring at my workarea.

Drop a part normally the cat starts for it before it even hits the floor, if it gets lost somehwere the old tissue and vacuum-cleaner does the trick every time.

Just remember: No part remains lost once you have painstakingly scratch built it’s replacement. [;)]

Mr. Carpet, let me introduce you to Mr. Flammenwerfer. I hope you two get along? Oh, Mr. Carpet, are you screaming in terror? Well, Don’t worry, I am sure Mr. Flammenwerfer will make it fast and toasty!

I battle the carpet critter myself but have found a way to win most of the time. I went to the local office supply store and purchased a clear plastic matt that normally goes under the desk in an office. You know the kind that makes the chair glide on the carpet. I put it uned the modeling desk and there you have it. I also use hemastats instead of part launching tweasers and they keep that frustration to a minimum.[:D]

Yes, but there are two gotcha’s that go along with this:
– The speed with which you start scratching the replacement has no effect on when the original shows up.
– Once you build the replacement & find the original, the extra one will not be the same part that goes astray when you build another of that kit.

My Modleling bench is in a converted closet… 4 foot by 3 foot… and a linolium floor but it seems when I drop a part it trys its darnest to roll under my shop toolbox… if it lands anywhere else we have 4 cats and they do a very good job of pointing out the peices that land on the floor… I just have to get to the part before they decide to start batting it around.

I work on a cement floor and use a broom and dust pan to hunt for flying parts. Maybe you could try putting down a white drop cloth which would make your flying parts more easy to find? Just a thought.

You might find the part, but the Void of lost parts is a beast that must be fed from time to time. IMO, how much it will eat a part depends on the cost of the kit and whether or not the part can be replaced. The harder it is to get or build a replacement part greatly increases the probability of losing said part.

Yes the carpet monster is evil, and I did scatch a new one in place, but it’s the principle of kits getting more expensive and my eyesite getting worse that any tweezable part should have duplicates. I’m starting my manifesto tonight.[banghead]

I’ll sign.

My secretary is busy drawing up the format right now. I’m sure with the great influence of this community we will see swift and decisive action. Power to the people!!![soapbox]
