This is my Zeke for the Pacific GB.
It’s my first go at weathering/chipping paint, but you gotta start somewhere[;)]
This one has the Eduard PE set for, and the final coat is Pledge(Future) mixed with Tamiya Flat Base.

Tweety,
I meant to ask - what did you ise for the chipping?
Looks spectacular …
Looks pretty good to me.
Excellent weathering you’ve made it look real
Cossack, I applied Tamiya Flat Aluminium to the areas my research pics showed as being heavily weathered.
Went over them with Humbrol Maskol, applied with a toothpick in a scruffy way, overpainted with a lightened coat of the base colour, then the Maskol removed.
Then I got stuck into the edges with my fingernail to make them a bit more ragged.
[;)]
Will take a bit more practice, and eventually get it looking ALOT more realistic on future kits
You did a fine job on her tweety.
Thad
Nice work!
Steve
Very nice build Tweety. Thanks for sharing.
Regards, Rick
beautiful job, especially on the himaru chipping.!
Thanks for your comments guys, muchly appreciated[:)]
Tweety1 the paint job and the weathering on the Zeke are fantastic, great work
Congratulations
Pedro
Stunning job Tweety. Did you paint your own hinomarus?
Looks like the real deal. Great work.
Top stuff mate! You could also try using a piece of coarse Scotchbrite pad to apply the Maskol, just lightly touching it in areas where you want chips will transfer random shapes and amounts of the Maskol to simulate your chipping. [tup][tup]
Cheers…Snowy
Cool stuff [tup][tup]
I tried the salt weathering tequnique fetured on Swanny’s website. It worked pretty well.
Thanks again guys.
Tigerman- No, the Hinomarus are the kit decals. I applied them, they looked out of scale, so masked of a smaller section, repainted, then lifted sections up with tape.
Snowy, thats a brilliant idea!!
Have no clue why I didn’t think of that, would have made things look alot better.
Next time…
Everything looks excellent on the whole model, especially the weathering. Awesome work tweety! [tup]
The build and weathering look great! Never would have guessed it was your first try at it. Thanks for sharing.
Mark
Looks fantastic to me.
I’ll be starting my first IJN aircraft in a few weeks and want to try something similar. Appreciate your insight and the tips others have posted as well
Excellent job
