Modelers, I’d like to do a model of the Kuwati A-4, designated A4-KU in 1/32. My understanding is that it is based off of the A-4M. I can’t find a kit of the M model but Hasgawa does have the E and F models in 1/32. What will be the difference between these and the M model which I could use as a KU model?
Also, are there by chance any 1/32 decal sheets out there for the KU? I can do my own decals, but it would be nice if they’ve already been produced.

The major difference is the engine and canopy/windscreen. The A-4M had a higher thrust engine which required larger air intakes (first introduced on the A-4F). The canopy and windscreen were enlarged for better visiblity. Also, the A-4M had a bent IFR probe as opposed to the straight type found on the A-4E/F (though the E/F/H variants were eventually refitted with the bent probe). I’m not sure if someone has made an A-4M/N conversion set for the 1/32nd scale kit or not. Cutting Edge made one for Hasegawa’s 1/48th A-4E/F, whether it has been upscaled for the larger kit, I can’t say.

The following is from the Steve Ginter book on the A-4-M.
“In November 1974 Kuwait ordered 30 single seat A-4-KUs (Bu Nos 160180 - 160209) and 6 two seat TA-4-KUs (Bu Nos 160210-160215). These were new construction aircraft identical to the USMC A-4-Ms except for some weapons capabilities. Shrike, Walleye, and nuclear capabilities were deleted, however the aircraft did have the Hughes Angle-Rate-Bombing System installed and could carry Maverick missiles”.

Well, I’ve learned that Cutting Edge has a 1/32 A4-M conversion in the works. I emailed them and they do not have a timeframe as of yet when it will be available. I’ll be waiting!!
