sorry I’ve not been around much, work and family life have been hetic of late. I finished my 1/48 scale dragon Ju-88 C-6 today and wanted to share it with you.
This particular version (C-6) really was a wolf in sheeps clothing, it was used as a long range fighter with multiple guns housed in the nose of the aircraft. Crews painted a fake glass nose on these fighters in order to draw in enemy fighters and then attack them. This particular model was built OOB, the only enhancements being some seatbelts in the cockpit, brake lines on the main landing gear and some strached gun sights. This is not a shake and bake kit, but goes together reasonably well if you take your time with it. I enjoyed this project as it was something new for me and I found the painting/weathering to be a challenge…in all, I learnt some new tricks and had some fun.
I could’nt resist making a small dio out of this one and I hope you will indulge me as I am not exactly the best diorama builder in the world, this was done purely for enjoyment, not accuracy. Anyhow, its supposed to convey a scene from the eastern front late on in the war. Here’s some pics, let me know your thoughts, good or bad!
Wow! That’s an awesome build. It looks pretty good. What did you use for the snow effect? Will it fly off if you breath next to it, or is it glued on?
These sepia photos looks nice. Good idea.
And very nice weathering on the plane.[tup]
A little comment: the foot print in the snow looks like if they were jumping like rabbit, you should have make them staggered. Just a small detail.[:)]
Thanks guys, the snow is scenic snow, its spinkled onto a glue surface and is left to set, a lot of folks have done it better than me…!! Thanks for your kind words, glad you like the model. Darren.
I hate to mention this so ignore it if you want to but the outboard control surfaces are Ailerons, not flaps, instead of both going down, one goes up when the other side goes down, of coarse you can just claim that the control cables are being replaced in which case this is perfectly accurate. Looks great.
I wish I knew where that secret workshop is located so I could make off with your builds. [}:)] Another fine work Darren. Top-notch weathering. Love it.
Many thanks for your kind words fellas! This build has caused some controversy somewhere else, namely the ailerons!! The truth is, I was not thinking clearly and goofed up…I will move one of them to the up position tomorrow, to save my blushes! Once again, thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, I really do appreaciate all your comments. Sharing builds here on FSM makes my hobby all the more enjoyable. Darren.
Outstanding job, Darren. I really like how you’ve depicted the insignias over the original camo-scheme, and winterized realistically around them so they are not perfect cut-outs. Your extra effort makes a significant difference
