Help!!! I realize this may not be the place but my husband speaks so fondly of his “FSM Forum Buddies” I figured you may be able to give me some input.
Okay, here’s the deal . . For our anniversary I reserved a spot for my husband to fly in a AT-6 Texan for 30 minutes for a total price of $369.95.
Am I crazy? Is this a deal? Is the experience alone worth it? I have no idea what kind of plane this is. Is this stupid? HELP!!!
Jen, I am pretty sure your hubby will be thrilled with the experience and bring you roses every day to express his gratitude. The AT-6 was a late WW2 trainer that also served in a combat role in Korea and with Foriegn Air Forces. It is a thrill to fly in one, as I had a chance to do a few years ago. Can’t think of a better gift for an Air Enthusiast.
When my dad died last year, I received some money from his insurance… it wasn’t a lot but would’ve put a good sized dent into our debt. My wife suggested I use it frivolously though…I thought of this and asked her opinion and she totally supported me on it…take a look in my profile to see the end result [;)]
Jen, Adam would love it!!! $369 is not a bad deal at all!!! Perhaps they’ll let him grab the sticks as well??? LOL That would be truly awesome, eh?! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! To you both. Now the real question is…how are you gonna bury this post so that he doesn’t see it?! LOL
Well, as a matter of fact he WILL get some stick time in.
If you go to www.warbirdskyventures.com he is in the advanced training for the AT-6. I thought this option to be the best for him. As far as Adam . . . I thought about this . . . . recently he has been working crazy hours and has had very little to no time for the forum so I figured if I harp on all the models he has with NO finished products he would model to keep me off his back stay away and by the time he finally had a chance this post would be buried or his gift already presented.
Thank you everyone so much for the input. I greatly appreciate it!!! I will let you know how it turns out.
Going rates in this neck of the woods (central PA) are $200 for a ride in the Mid Atlantic Air Museum’s Texan, but I don’t think that includes stick time.
I have heard of prices almost that high for rides in B-24’s and B-17’s I think, or am I mistaken?
Now where can I find an F-15E ride at?
Any “Gunfighters” with the 391st willing to give me a ride?
After all it is my tax money paying for the fuel. [:-^]
Mike the B-17 “9-0-9”, and the B-24 “Dragon and his tail” were in town last week, and they are $400.00 a pop to ride in. Not to mention the $8.00 I had to pay to walk through both of them. LOL But, I did come away with a couple hundred of nice reference pics!!! Can’t wait 'till they come back next year!! Maybe I’ll go for a ride in one…but for another $100.00 I could fly in the “Six Shooter” P-51 or “Valhala” (spelling…they are both stationed in Ramona)…hmmmmm perhaps one day…
Hey, Jen! This is a great idea! I’m sure He’ll love it! Oh, and you might want to throw in the extra $40 for the in flight video while you’re at it… that is if you can put up with adam showing off to all his buddies in the living room instead of eating dinner… [:p]
Hey Jen! You know that I know Adam, and I know that he would absolutely love it! How nice of you to think of such a gift for him.
The price seems about right for a ride in that type of aircraft, so I would consider it a good deal. Besides, he will never forget the experience and who it was that provided it. I still remember the first intro lesson that my wife bought me for my birthday, and that was over ten years ago.
Good for you, and Adam is one very lucky guy! (In more ways than one!)
