A weekend of decals

I spent this weekend decalling my “production line.” Am I glad THAT’S over ! Phew ! They will receive another coat of Future before I do a wash. All the parts to be added (gears, gear doors, flaps, etc.) are finished, so once I dullcoat I can add the finishing touches.

First is the 1/48 Shanghai Dragon FW 190A-8, with Eduard PE.

The area behind the exhausts will be painted with Alcad II steel, once the dullcoat is applied.

Next is the 1/48 DML Ta 152H-1, also with Eduard PE.

The area around the exhausts will also be painted Alcad II steel.

Last is a 1/48 Trimaster Me 262A-1a, built out-of-the-box, with Eagle Cals markings.

This is a different camo for a 262, possibly to help hide it in the woods that the Luftwaffe had to use for airfields late in the war.

Once these three are finished, I’ll repair my Ju 87G-2 in winter camo. I want a clean work bench to ensure there are no more accidents.

I had image conversion problems with my computer, so I reshot the pics.

Hope you like 'em so far, & thanks for letting me share them !

Just awesome Pix… they surely don’t look mass produced, you really made them look great. Can’t wait to see them “standing on their own” and un-masked.[bow][bow][bow]

Thanks, Adam ! I expect them to be done sometime this week. None of these are dive bombers, so I probably won’t endure the misfortune that visited my Stuka !

Pix, they look stunning as usual.

Great work so far pix. Maybe I will start doing the assembly line thing so I can make room for some new kits. [V][V] But my girlfriend is already having a s**t fit with how many unbuilt kits I have already.

those planes are looking sweet.[:D] you are doing a great job.

Hi Pix,
Why u don’t choose the second option with heinz baer marking… its much nicer than priller… later u can buy the tamiya F-8 and convert it to A-8 [:D] [8D]

As always, very impressive work, Pix! The decals went on nicely and without a trace of silvering. Marvelous job!

Thanks, Karl, falcon, willuride, Kingtiger, & allan !

falcon - the “assembly line” worked really well for me doing the painting, washing, drybrushing & assembly. I also enjoyed assembling & sanding them together. It became tedious when masking the canopies & applying the decals. There’s also more “clutter” with four (there’s also a Hasegawa Ju 87 that got damaged during construction) open boxes & various parts sprues all over the place. From here on, it will probably go smoothly.

Kingtiger - I’ve already done those markings the first time I built this kit (I’ve done 7 or 8 DMLs). Many may say this is heresy, but I really don’t care for the Tamiya FW 190 F-8 or D-9. While more difficult to build, I feel that Trimaster/DML/Dragon did a much better job at capturing the “look” of the plane.

These are both old builds (decals have yellowed). The Tamiya prop, spinner, wheels, & landing gear look funny to me. Its also simplified (and more expensive), to make building easier. I don’t care how easy/difficult something is to build. If it dosen’t look “right” to me, I’m not interested.

pix hi[:)]
great looking builds…with decals they are really starting to “come to life”!![8D]
what’s next for the production line? do you do bombers? you could do a he111, do17 and ju88 all together!!! think of the time you’d save!!![(-D]
thanks for sharing with us.
regards,
nick

Pix, that is just awesome. You give the rest of us mortals something to shoot for. [bow]

Please keep us up to date. I really appreciate seeing what you are up to.

your “production line” has turned out more very impressive builds. i like the others am in awe of your skill and thankful for your generosity in sharing your work.

Great work pix . What else is there to say Jason

Hey Pix,

Now those are some sweet looking aircraft! Impressive paint jobs… they’ll look good in the hangar!

Take care,
Frank

Thanks, nick, benzdoc, fightinjoe, jay, & Frank !

nick - I just got a headache when I imagined masking the canopies of a He 111 (got one to do), Do 17 (don’t have one), and Ju 88 (got 2 to do) all at the same time ! (OH, THE HUMANITY !) The He 111 kit isn’t that difficult to build, but I’d have to build the Ju 88s by themselves !

Frank - I just got a thought. If I built them as “planes under construction,” I’d be almost done by now ! WOO HOO !

Thanks again, everyone. I’m glad you like 'em. (trying NOT to sound like Sally Fields at the Oscars !)

Pix as usual your aircraft look like masterpieces. How about apicture of the display case(s) You probably have more aircraft then the Air Force… All of us modellers hope to be like you when we grow up. JOHN

Wow,

I’ve been keeping an eye on this ‘factory’ for a while and am very impressed. Very nice work Pix.

Murray

Most impressive, Pixilater. You might call it an assembly line, but they sure don’t look “mass produced” to me. Very nice!
Paul

You 'da man Pix! [;)]
Very nice work. [tup]

Mike

Thanks, JOHN, Murray, Paul, & Mike !

John - I’ve only got about 100 displayed. I’ve got another 100+ that were damaged in my last move, and another 100+ from my “reaquaintance with the hobby” years. There’s another 100 yet to build in the “factory annex.” I hope the USAF has more than that, but I’m not to sure about Bolivia.
You might/might notwant to be like me. I haven’t/will not grow up ! (even though I’m 48 !)

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I’m glad that I’m not just building for myself anymore.
