A Surprise for Ivan...Dragon's Sdkfz 251-C/7 3-in-1

They did make one with a PaK and the assault bridges, but it was the riveted version…this kit is the welded version-I have not come across the pic for a while, but i read on a couple of german web sites that they had a few with the pak, and on the ausf. D, there was a panzerbuesche mounted, that is the new dragon ausf D kit coming out…
I think I will hold off on the combo type, for the moment, I am still undercided as to which to build…
Here is my Tamiya 251, and my brand new dragon 251 suspension. The tamiya kit is old, and undetailed, the dragon suspension has just about as many pieces(ok, maybe not, but close) as the tamiya one and it only costed 30 bucks…

whoops forgot to add the pics

Great job as usual Bill. Just want to ask…how much hair did you pull out of whose head for this one?

LOL. Just kidding.

Take my word for it, he probably pulled out a lot

Nice whitewash Beav.

Dwight,

Would you believe that I seriously considered using my dog’s hair (she’s a short haired wiry crossbreed, half boxer and half terrier), especially since she’s shedding like crazy and the hair is everywhere! A quick pass with the grooming brush and I’d have had plenty…unfortunately my wife nixed that idea and I was forced to use an alternate source in the form of WS static grass. [:D]

Thanks wbill76, I was looking through the instructions last night, and saw that indeed with the Pak, I’d have to include the amo storage boxes.
Excellent build, once again. The only criticism I can possibly make is that the grass on your base is not that random, and almost looks orderly.

Zokissima,

Thanks for the feedback on the grass…I drilled the holes using my Dremel and while I tried to make the holes random, this was complicated by where the vehicle and figures had to go and my impulse to do “rows” of holes as opposed to random clumps. On top of that I was trying to convey a sense of continuity for a wide grassy area as opposed to just a small patch or isolated clumps. The original intent was to create almost a solid grassy arrangement but that proved impractical to take the figures, so I modified it but only after some of the holes had already been drilled and planted. Will definitely keep that in mind for future efforts using the grass (this was the first time trying it along with other things).

Great looking build and dio Bill! I like the camo scheme, did they paint their towed guns this way too, just wondering cause I have a pak 40 in dark yellow that looks a little plain…

Very nice build. [bow]

Great dio and model…as you all already know- dragon rulez- [:D]

Dragan, Stug,

Thanks for the compliments!

Matt,

Generally speaking, towed guns mirrored the camo schemes of the other vehicles. They were given the same latitude on their camo as regular vehicles in terms of matching to their local surroundings.

Hi Bill. Just wanted to thank you for the tips on how you did your ground work for your dio. sometimes I forget to check my earlier postings for feedback. That is just one of the prices one pays for getting older “CRS”. Semper Fi, mike

Super job, Bill! Sorry I didn’t pick up on this earlier. I really like the way the dio came out. Really adds a lot. One of these days, i’ll get inspired enough looking examples like yours and get off my tush and attempt one myself. I could only hope for it to be half as nice as yours. Great job on the uniforms, too. I really like the whole look of it.

Congrats.

Mike and Bill,

Thanks for the kind words! I owe my own inspiration to make the leap with dios to the excellent examples I see here and other places as well for encouraging me to try something new. Dios are starting to become more attractive to me as an extension of bringing the model to life and adding context, never know what might happen next. [:D]

IVAN:
GREAT JOB, CONGRATULATION.[:)]
