A story of two propellers

This is more brail scale Sword S-43 stuff. I’m working on the propellers this weekend and they are of the pre-war color scheme. What a pain these are to paint. They are base coated with Krylon Gloss black then Alclad 2 then go through a series of masks and paint to achieve the final result. Here is the first step and the last, my site update features all five steps if you want to see the whole story.

They wont actually go on the model until the very end to prevent breakage.

ahhhhhhhh quit belly achin’ Matt, you know it’ll be worth it. [;)][:)] they look great. later.

Not me, Matt. One of the first things I noticed about these lovely Yellow Wings decals was the inclusion of enough three-tone propellor tips for several props, and I intend to use them. But yours is lovely, if I may say so, and I admire your patience and skill. But painting props is right down there with canopy frames on my list of hell’s torments.

Looks good Swanny.

Havent attempted any pre war stuff yet, but seeing your colorful props makes me want to. Great job on those Swanny.

Thanks guys. Chris - you are absolutely correct, the results are well worth the effort.

It’s amazing what you can do with a 4" paint brush and a can of official four color paint.

Looks excellent Swanny, I am a firm believer in painting those prop stripes as well. The metal finish looks very accurate too!

Great start towards an undoubtedly great build. Keep us posted.

Looks good Swanny. I get annoyed at having to paint the normal props with just the yellow tips. I can only imagine how I’d go with some of those. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t know Tom it would definitly be a torment if the scale was 1/144 scale but usually it isnt much trouble in 1/72nd or 1/48 scale and it would be a breeze in 1/32 scale. (much bigger props and canopies)

Yea, that really looks good. I aways feel a little better over a nice result if the way to get it was a bit hard, it´s worth it.

Keep it up Swanny! (who am I kidding, you always do!)[;)]

Best /Johan
