a stablemate for miss marilyn 2.................vol 2 and my foiling method.

That finish looks spectacular. My hats off to ya Joe
Keep your fingers away from the babble box and put them on that model so ya can post more picts.

brian, jeff, and wibhi2 thankyou.

wibhi2 i do need to get back to modeling. my problem is i just love to play on the computer and on the playstation 2.

jeff ok here it goes. so far in the three attempts i have used tinfoil, candy foil, and krome foil. the best way to do foil is to:
-if you use glue, brush or paint glue into one or two panels.
-cut a piece of foil which will cover the glued area and will have just a bit overlap.
-after the glue has a chance to set use a sharp blade and cut the foil to the shape of the panels.
-use a cotton swab to burnish the foil down. making sure that you take your time to burnish the foil over all the detail.
-when the glue has had more of a chance to set use the cotton swab to burnish the foil to the plastic.
-when the glue has dried use a cotton swab and glass gleaner to clean the foil.

i have used future over the top and it works well. also if you use tinfoil you can turn it over to change the tone of the panels.

now if you use a self adhesive foil such as krome foil or bmf be careful to pull the backing off with the foil. if you leave wrinkles in the backing you will have wrinkles in the foil. once wrinkles are in the foil they are really tough to get out. the best thing is to remove the affected piece and try again. if you have an airpocket use a sharp blade to cut the pocket and you can burnish it down to flat.

there you go. it isnt much but that is my method. i must edit this to say that i have taken many suggestions from many members of this and other forums to compile this.

innovative Joe…
lQQk’in good…far cry from the 1st one…huh
more show, please…

Nice job on the bmf. My first try was on a F-84 and it still is one of my favorite builds if for no other reason then the time I put into it. My 2nd atempt was a B-17G and every thing was going fine until my cat useed it for a cushion :frowning: The wings were broken at the root and the foil was torn were the glue broke free. I will more then likely not finish the plane but you never know… Curently I only use foil for oleo struts.

rik and steve thankyou for your kind words.

rik it is miles from the first one i tried.

steve i hope you can repair the damage from the feline. i have catapulted more than one feline that has tried to move into range of my builds.

joe

Isnt it great to see your own progress Joe??? We have the best hobby in the world.
