A really wild tank

Hi folks, I just joined the website a few minutes ago. I’m also a member of the Scale Auto site. It was suggested that I should post the pictures shown below, and that this tank might be appreciated here. So here it comes…Gary

From my personal point of view…

That has to be the most excellently silly bits of work i’ve seen in a long time! [:D]

Gave me a good laugh so nicely done sah! [(-D]

The best way to get through trafic jams LOL[:D]

Hey Gary–glad you posted this here! We don’t get enough whimsical, creative one-offs like this over here!

I LOVE this tank!! [#toast] Does it have a stereo?! [(-D]

Gee,The image “http://www.comicguide.net/images/smilies/wow2.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.looks like the dreaded M-57 HEVY with the early suspension and twin directional stabilizers.

You need some “moss” camouflage which was prevalent for that time.

Hey Doog remember that Beater Nomad you were working on that tank is what everyone wanted you to build. And it’s a Nomad frame to boot.

I remember those pieces from the clandestine skirmishes of Suburbia 1957.

well it is ok…but it REALLY needs a new set of GLASSPACKS[:-^]

[tup][#toast]

That has to be one of the coolest things Ive seen in a while. Great job. At first I was looking at it and thought ‘what sherman variant is this?’ Then I saw the headlights and went ohhhhh…

i suppose a wolf whistle and dingle balls would be asking for to much.is this a prototype of a cold war era stealth tank?[%-)][swg]

The lo-o-o-o-ong exhausts down the sides remind of my very first model contest entry, a baby blue 1960ish Chevy with about 10 exhaust pipes running down its sides, including at least one on each side that blocked the doors. (Yeah, I know NOW each cylendar gets one pipe at most, but you see, I had all tehse extra pipes and it seemed like a good idea at the time. [:D]That was in 1962 or so.

Does it have a stereo? You bet it does! And dang near anything else it wants as well.

Judging from the response to the VERY RARE pictures you’ve seen above, I felt an obligation, no, a DUTY to call up my sources in “special” places to see if I could find out the story behind this unusual vehicle. The results of this inquiry are included below for your information, but you must not under any circumstances, divulge the source of this information. (And since I ain’t telling you who “he” or “she” is, you can’t tell nobody, right?!)

Subject; M57 CHV

During the 1950’s, G.M., working independently of the government, was developing a new type of armored car. G.M.'s criteria was different than for previous armored cars. Of course, it would have an armored area for the crew, and it must also have some form of projectile firing devices. But G.M.'s top brass wanted more performance than other vehicles of the type, and more comfort for the afforementioned occupants. Also, a main concern was to be able to stow more gear inside the vehicle. The code name given to this vehicle was “NOMA-D”.

All of the criteria came together in September of 1956 with the completion of the first prototype of the M57 CHV. It was then presented to top government officials who thoroughly checked all specifications, and the feasability of a totally new direction in armored personnel carriers. After approximately twelve months of exhaustive testing, the government announced that it would prefer to study “Other Proposals”, so around September of 1957, the M57 CHV project was cancelled.

All that remained of the farsighted “Project NOMA-D” was the original prototype of which you few have seen the never before published photographs.

As a footnote, and by an extremely lucky stroke of good fortune, I, have been able to obtain the above described prototype of this radical military transport vehicle for my private collection. I cannot tell you just how lucky I feel, and thanks for your time! Gary

A baby-blue '60 Chevy… my very first car. Oh how wide that back seat was. [XX] [:I]

I thought it was Cuban…

Very cool.

Very cool. Would love to hear a Beach Boys song about that one[(-D]

Very nice work integrating the two and the camo scheme did the trick…took me a couple to figure out exactly what it was. Humor and skill all in the same package. [tup]

Give’s a whole new meaning too the term SUV (Sherman Utility Veh.)
