A Quick Survey

Hi, I’m Brian and I’m addicted to collecting stuff…

We all share the addicition to plastic [:-^] , but I was wondering how many others have another expensive vice besides modeling? I am an unabashed electric guitar collector (21) and firearms collector (lost count of those). Any one else in the same boat?

Brian [C):-)]

I don’t collect but I do Scuba dive. A far more expensive hobby/sport than modeling…so far!

Sports cars. I have a hard time dividing my time between modeling and screwing around with old sports cars. Not sure which one is costing me more money.

While I’m definately a pack rat, nothing comes close to my addiction to modeling. I used to be a huge collecor of sports cards and memorabilia, but as life moved onwards things like marriage, children and work have taken the place of all the other aditictions.

I guess, if anything, I’m also a hockey fanatic and have managed a way to play in recreational mens leagues pretty much year-round.

A long time ago the wife and I used to collect Swarovski (sp?) crystal and David Winter cottages. And thanks heavens it’s “used to…”[;)]

What we collect now are these really beautifully printed documents. We get them monthly through a pre-arranged set up. They come form the bank, gas company, electic company, insurance company. Funny thing is… they want them back[:(]

Motorcycles for me. No matter how many different ones I have, I always feel the need to add another specialized one to the fleet. Hmmm, let’s see…

A dual-sport for dirt stuff, a sportbike for flailing around the twisties, a cruiser for Sunday afternoon rides, a …

[sigh]

My other addicition is Balsa if Im not at the bench glue-n plastic Im out flying my RC war birds

[(-D] Lol…it appears we subsrcibe to the same publications!

LMAO!!!

Not so much a collector than I just have other OCDs.

Some of my other OCDs are replica movie props and astronomy. Thankfully, most movies have been mostly prop-free (collecting wise, anyway) for the last couple of years and astronomy seems to be an occassional large purchase instead of several small purchases like modeling.

I have 2 telescopes, a meade etx90 that I travel with and Zhumell 10" dob that’s my primary home scope. I’ve got a dozen or so eyepieces and filters and I’m always looking to add more. This is one of those rare times when I’m kinda glad I’m single, because my finances don’t have to answer to anyone but me.

I am a certified die-castaholic. I love the 1/72 scale die-cast by Corgi, Dragon, Hobby Master and others. The amount of detail in say, a Dragon P-51D model is simply amazing!

I’ve got well over 75 of these competing for space with my plastic models. Luckily, being 1/72 scale, you can fit a lot into small areas. I collect mostly WWII fighters - I try to have the most popular ones from the main countries. So, I have a USAAC, USN, RAF, IJN, IJA, Luftwaffe, and Russian areas.

I’ve gotten pretty good at collecting pound since I’ve gotten out of the Army. I have quite a collection.

We share some addictions, Brian, though you have it worse than I do. Or maybe better, depending on the POV. I’m not so addicted to buy kits, but have a huge wish list for guitars (up to 7 now) and firearms (only 3 so far). If I had more money and some ability to jam the wife’s radar, I would have lots more of each!

I’ll help you get rid of some of those guitars if you want![swg]

Hats. Left all my guns in Texas. Knifes too, still got them. But I really like a good hat. Got me a pea pattern 44 feldmütze in Normandy this summer thats probably my favorite right now. Then again theres thiis old Jim Beam gimme that seems to spend more time on my head than than all the rest. Call it my grill hat. My wallet aint thick enough for guitars and cars. But kits are the worst. I build my stash alot faster than I build any kit And Ive got stuff from 10 years ago. But then again it never gave me a hangover.

No wonder we get along, Brian!! Although my collections have dwindled they once, all, had their own rooms. One for guitars, one for guns and another for models.

The guitars and guns have fallen off shrarply. At one time I had 15 handguns and 10 high powered rifles. Along with numerous old pump and semi-automatic shotguns and 22s.

Now, alas, I’m down to my old trusty Model 10-6 S&W NYSP issue .357 and a S&W 457, 45 ACP. Rifles, my custom .17 Swift, AR-15, 7mm Mauser & my trusty Ruger 10-22. Only got one shotgun. Remington 1100 with a 21" barrell and extended magazine (8 rounds of 00 buck. I call it my “room sweeper”)

Only have 5 guitars left. 1974 Goya G380 jumbo acoustic, 1999 Fender SJ-65S jumbo acoustic, 2005 Washburn J28SCEDL jumbo acoustic/electric, 2005 Washburn WI64 electric antique white and a 2005 Washburn WI64DL electric vintage sunburst. I play these through a Peavey Heritage VTX with a Degitech RP50 effects pedal. I may only play in church now but, sometimes our church rocks!!!

Golf is my warm weather passion & I collect the old wooden shaft golf clubs from golfs early years. I have 53 various clubs in the collection, but it hasn’t grown much in recent years as the old clubs are getting rare & overly expensive.

Regards, Rick

Hello again all. my other passion is sport bikes. love the twisties !! own a cbr 6oorr. love it. but i work graveyard (for ever !) so not much riding time. or model building. if i`m lucky i get a couple of hours a week. plus my 4 1/2 yr. grandson stays over a couple of nights aweek, and he likes to help “pop pop”. so its all put away at those times. but he does share my interest in airplanes !

Collecting Vintage GI Joes/equipment, and old pressed-tin trucks.

Rick, I wouldn’t say I’m addicted to golf, but I have an old Otey Chrismann wood shaft putter that I’m still using. Should I refrain from wrapping it around a tree trunk?

As for addictions other than plastic, I guess it would be anything related to airplanes or flying, and my Grandkids. The other things are probably just obsessions.
