A question on the "Dot filter" technique.

I’m going to try a dot filter for the first time and I’m going to use minarl spirets as the oil paint thinner but do I need to seel my Tamyia acrilics first or will the mineral spirets not react with the paint???

Thanks.

i would seal the model first to be on the safe side.

future make shure it drys for a couple days.

I seal with spray varnish, either flat or satin-finish. I like the sealer to have some “tooth” for grabbing weathering colors… Specifically, I use Tree House clear acrylic varnish.

I do my dot filtering on aircraft over a gloss finish, usually Future. I use oil paints and odourless Turpenoid. This alows the paint to be more easily manipulated and completly removed if you don’t like it.

Future is a good barrier, but if you go at it too long and too hard you can eat through it. Try it on an old model or scrap plastic first and see what gets you the results you want.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I don’t have any Future so I’ll try the spray varnish.

Thanks!
