Brian, can you help me here… What do you use here in Japan for cleaning canope’s and clear pieces. Such as getting over spray and smugges off… Something similar to Goo-is Gone, or something like that?..What Japanese brands do you use, and what stores can I get it?.. Also, do we have anything like future here?
I use good ol’ Gunze lacquer thinner, sparingly. It’s pretty harsh stuff, and will easily eat off any paint or tape residue. I’ve never had any problems with it effecting the clarity of clear parts, but you may want to test it first before you use it on a canopy. I’ve never seen “Goo-Gone” here in Japan, but then again, I’ve never looked for it.
I have looked everywhere for Future, but never found it. Finally, good samaritan Therriman (where’s he been lately?) sent me a bottle last year.
I also know of no alternatives to Future here.
Here in Osaka, you can find Gunze products wherever models are sold. Hobby shops, department stores, toy stores, etc. Never heard of Nafco, Goo-Day, or Mr. Max. Must be local Kitakyushu shops!
The “Mister Color Thinner” series of lacquer thinners look like this (same product, just different sizes):
Thank you Brian, the pics are a great help… Ok, last stupid question for the day… I take it that the numbers on the bottle are its strength?.. You can slap me if you feel the need…
Ooooppss, my bad… Its the size of the bottle… I blame my mental problems on the snow!
Got the Mr Color thinner that you suggested, took it to the canope, and she works a treat… You have answered my prayers!.. This Italeri kit will actually look like a decent kit after all… Thanks Brian…
Glad it worked for you, Chris! Was that the Typhoon kit you were working on?
The numbers on the Gunze bottles are indeed the volume in milliliters. Different sized bottles, as you correctly surmised.
There ya go! [:)]
Now, why you guys down in Sunny Fukuoka get snow while us up here in Osaka do not is a mystery!
We may actually get a bit Saturday or Sunday. 吹雪かも!
We shall see. Stay warm down there!
I often used to wonder why we get snow myself, and then it was explained to me… We are actually very close to the Chinese mainland and Korea… Basically, we get the weather patterns from that area… If you see a weather pattern forming in China, then you can bet a few days later we will recieve it… The worst part is that every year we get a few days of sand storms come through from the mainland aswell, and the whole sky is a yellow color… Not a pretty thing to live through, especially for your car… So to answer your question, we get snow because the weather pushes down from the mainland…
ps, yes it was the Typhoon I was working on… Finished it last night… very happy with it… For a poor kit, it turned out great… ALot of work though…You can see a few pics in the other thread I started!
