Thanks for the info on the Hobbycraft Dr.I. I can get the Roden Dr.I for not much more than what I would have paid for the HC version, so I’ll probably go that route. Sorry to have whet your appetite for Dr. I’s! [:P] I like your idea of a Jasta 11 dio…that would be MIGHTY colorful, I’m sure!

Nate, i flicked through my old fsm mags and found the reveiw in the sept 2006 issue… I think i’ll go the dio after my BF 110 with airfeild dio is complete but i won’t go 32scale, 4 Eduard 1/48 Dr.1s to go with my Eduard albatross, Icm make figures too…

BTW Squadron have dual Dr1 combo kits for $29:00, 4 Dr.1s for less than $60 and thats with the PE sets…Not bad i think…

No problem, Jules! For the prop, I painted it first with Tamiya XF59. After that dried, I used a brown Sharpie marker to draw in the laminations. Finally, I applied a coat of Tamiya clear yellow. It’s a simple, but I think , fairly effective way of painting props.

I first painted my tri-plane’s bottom, Tamiya light blue. Then I painted the top portions Tamiya Buff. Then I sprayed on some Future, and after it dried, I applied the decals. I should say that the decals need to be measured against the kit parts, then cut out individually, keeping in mind the direction of the streaking. In my research, I have found that there are different directions of streaking on the wings, ailerons, fuselage top, and sides,and tail surfaces. After they dry, I trimmed the edges, and applied Solvaset. Finally, I sprayed on a Flat top coat using Testors clear flat in a spray can.
I hope this helps a bit.
On a side note, I’ll be entering the tri-plane, along with a few of my armor models in a contest this morning.

I’m glad I could help Jules. Decaling isn’t as hard as it seems, just time consuming.
My triplane didn’t place in the contest, but very deserving models won. I actually won two silver medals in different categories for tanks, and wheeled armored vehicles, so I’m pretty happy.[:)]

I checked out that site, will definatly be ordering those decals for mt Dr 1s, except for the red one that is…
I’ll have to do some more research on Lothars triplane, the only colour plate i have of his is dated march 1918 but that triplane was shot down and crash landed on the 13th of march…The other 3, Manfreds, Hans Weiss and Richard Wenzls are all dated April 1918 at cappy which i believe is the same time and place your build is depicted…
