I’m doing this a little backwards, but I recently updated my profile and realized that I never formally introduced myself! So, here goes!
I started building kits when I was about 8 or so. Weekly trips to the grocery store always included checking out the kits at the local Wigwam store. I remember once getting a double kit for a gift from my folks that included Ed Roth’s Tweedy Pie (I believe), where Dad had to step in and help. He was a big influence in my life, having built a clipper ship himself, from scratch, with a solid wood hull; approximately 1/90th (or so) scale. It was mounted to the wall in our living room for all of my life. He called it the “Young America”.
I am interested in all aspects of modeling and R/C though up until recently, about all I’ve done is collect kits due to a busy schedule of “the modern day wage earner/homeowner/farmer”. Raising 4 daughters with my wonderful wife of 30+ years together with 5 dogs and 2 cats and all the necessary yard care takes a good deal of my time. I was a chassis mechanic/frame and axle guy for 10 years with Dad and moved on to the shipyard when he passed. There I have worked as a ship-fitter/boilermaker, and now I work as a yard-fireman, which is basically an industrial safety person. Having recently converted a spare room into a hobby room which I share with the cats (I had to get out of the cold basement) , I have just started on a 1/200 Hasegawa 777. By the way, though I made the “mistake” of getting rid of my early collection, I have read every copy of FSM since number 1.
