Haven’t seen one in years. Nice build.

That looks great!!

Way cool. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that one.

Far Out brother ,thats a groovvy plane.

awesome build. i dont know why, but ive always thought that is a very cool plane. thats the Lindberg 1/48, right? i just got that one on eBay. im probably going to build mine as a salt flat LSR car. i cant seem to find any really good info on it though. what kind of engines did it use? i thought i had a book that had some tidbits about it, but the book must have got lost in a move. thanks, and sweet plane mstanley. later.

Nice job on the old bird, thanks for the peek.

Very cool. Did the men come with it? Nice looking runway also. What is it made of?

I’ve always like the look of that plane, its one of those that looks like its going mach 2 while standing still. Too bad the real thing never got the engines it needed to break mach.

Nice build, Lindberg kits are the perpetual excercize in turning sow’s ears into silk purses.

A very neat looking aircraft and a real nice build…!

it looks great. speaking from my limited experience with linberg kits. excellent job.

No the figures don’t come with the kit. I just have a pile of doods that “volunteer” for pictures. The runway is a piece of a cereal box with some “Sharpie” lines drawn on!

You’d think with such a beautiful, futuristic ) at least in the 50s shape, somebody else would have taken an interest in the X-3 (Actually, I think there’s a really ancient Revell kit in about 1/72 scale). But if you’re thinking of building one of these bad boys, be prepared for lots of scratchbuilding. There’s no cockpit, just a poorly-cast pilot (you can’t see much through those sci-fi windowns anyhoo. The shape is generally OK, so its a good starting point, as mstanley has shown us. One thing to watch out for: The wings were very shiny buffed aluminum, and on the Lindberg box top they look quite blue, due to a reflection from the photogs backdrop or something else. In the Lindberg kit I had, which is in the same box as current, they gave you a small square of peel-off Mylar for the wings, Amazing how long that kit has stayed in production. Revell couldn’t keep it’s much nicer 1950s-vintage X-5 (still an ancient turkey, as kits go) going for more than one season of re-release, when it was re-released alongside the 1/32 X-1, which was a whole new new mold. I’ve always wanted to take one of these X-3s and make it look good as you have, but can’t get motivated when I see how few parts are in the box.
On another, sort of related topic, I wonder just how many planes did not fill their full potential because Westinghouse failed to produce their promised wonder engine(s). Does anyone know of any, besides the X-3. I believe the Vaught F7U falls under this category, too. As a result, the famed Buttless (or Gutless, as the pilots called their sluggish machines) was always underpowered.

You done a fine job with the old Stiletto; beautifully displayed, thank you for posting!

Take care,
Frank

Very nice!
Nothin’ wrong with that Lindberg kit (now)!
