I just saw an advertisement about a 1/72 kit of a Tupolev TU-28 “Fiddler” interceptor made by A-Model.
I’ve never built one of this company’s kits, so can someone tell me what I might be able to expect of their kits in general if not the “Fiddler” kit specifically?
I’ve been wanting a kit of that aircraft for years, but I don’t want to end up fixing half the kit just to get a good representation out of it.
I only have their Rutan Voyager kit, and have not seen this one yet. Lots of flash, but decent amount of detail. I’m sure you will not have the best fit ever, but at least it’s got the edge over the various vacs that have been produced before!
I tried to get the Tu-128 Fiddler kit from Linden Hill recently but they are out of stock. Apparently Amodel is involved in some civil litigation in the Ukaraine and has been forced to suspend all exports. No idea when it might be available again but I’m looking for a copy if anyone has an extra!.
It’s a short run kit so you will have to do a lot of dry fitting, filling and sanding. Just don’t expect Tamigawa fit. I would say A Model kits are going to be just a little bit harder to build than your late 60’s early 70’s Monogram models. I’m assuming that you want to fill all the seems and build the kit so the wings, fins and landing gears are not crooked and don’t have any gaps.
I just love bringing back life to old threads. I see an A-model Tu-128UT Pelican on the net now, and was wondering if anybody knows anything about this kit? The ARC forum posts I hunted up said fairly complimentary things for it, but was wondering if anybody in this forum has experienced this kit themselves. I am mostly interested in seeing if this kit can be built in either the trainer variant or the original “Fiddler” interceptor version - if the trainer parts are just added sprues to the original kit. Any review of the general details of this model would also be helpful. Thanks!
