A M163A1 Vulcan SPAAG dilema

I recentally started a M163A1/2 Vulcan SPAAG from Academy Korea. I am now ready to begin painting it. I have chosen the vietnam variant and have constructed the model as thus so far. Unfortunatlly, the only paint scheme in the directions is the modern paint scheme. For the vietnam panit scheme it says “Refer to photographs of box side for painting Vietnam version.” The problem begins here. I don’t have the top of the box any more! Somehow it got thrown out in the garbage, something I would never do. What is the vietnam paint scheme and what exact colors does it inclued?[%-)] The only photos I can find so far have a modern paint scheme on it.

Two words, meat…olive drab.

oh… Thanks

Actually, it wasn’t OD in Vietnam. Only a few M163A1s were sent to Vietnam as test vehicles near the end of US involvement, in the '69 or '70 timeframe. The vehicles were in an early camo scheme that was shown on the Academy box. The pattern was in browns, black, and green, but was nothing like modern camo and not a '70s MERDC pattern either. Unfortunately, I can’t find a pic of it now.

Here is the Academy boxart for it:

Hope that helps.

I think I have some pictures that show them as Olive drab. I know that the caption in one pic says somthing like “you can just make out the camo pattern under the heavy layer of dust” (parapharsed). If you do go for the camo pattern like Gino said you could add heavy dust weathering.
