A lesser known bird from WW2...

Hi all,

Just a few in progress shots of my Fine Molds 1/72 scale “Lorna” build. This a/c was built in fairly small numbers and had little effect on the Japanese war effort…and its ugly. I am adding some extra details inside and out…none can be seen yet however. I’ll post some glamor shots later next week when it’s done. Hope you like it so far!

Happy modeling,

Joe Youngerman

Looking good-never heard of it before but it seems to show some Dornier/Junkers influence.

Dan

Joe, is that the recon machine that looks like a scaled down Ju88?

Certainly an interesting looking build.

Karl

Interesting looking bird Joe

Thanks guys…yes, the Lorna is claimed to have been inspired by the German Ju-88 though its an ugly attempt at a copy if that’s true. It lacked power (610 HP per side), was undergunned and slow. They flew convoy escort duty from Japan, Formosa and China late in the war. Only about 150 Lorna’s were produced.

Happy modeling all!

Joe

Looks good, I wouldn’t call it ugly, more like…freaky cute, kinda like pot belly pigs. I’ve never hearad of the “Loma” either. Interesting.[:)]

Makes sense about Dornier… saw a show on he history channel about secret japanese aircraft. They said that the japanese got pictures of the Jumo engine used on the Me 262. If they can engineer jet engines from photos, they can do anything. Looks good so far nine… what’d you use for the demarcation line??

Looking great so far keep us posted I love seeing lesser known a/c.

Looking great so far Joe. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Coming along nicely Joe. Nice to see something different=)

Coolish, don’t think I’ve seen one of these built up before. Looking forward to seeing Miss Doone finished…

Fade to Black…

Looks Great Joe,keep us posted!

I like it! Reminds me of one of those little dogs that look like they been smacked in the face with a shovel.

a Pug!!! hahahaha

Thanks guys for the feedback…looks like a lot of folks appreciate an ugly a/c like I do!
Radmax…the line was masked with Tamiya type using the Fine Molds instructions and photos, (there are only about a dozen). I am not sure if this should really be a hard edge or a soft one so this was a bit of a guess based on other late war Navy a/c of the period.

Joe

I have heard of the Lorna before, but it is definately a RARE bird. Your build definately does it justice, even it won’t win any beauty contests. I am looking forward to pictures of the finished model.
