A Grinning Mustang

Fresh of the bench is my Tamiya 1/48 F-51. This was my first build of one Tamiya’s P-51 offerings and all I can is WOW. Best fitting kit I’ve ever built. Can’t wait to do the P-47.

Markings are from the kit decals. Painted with MM enamel and Floquil products.

WOW, that’s beautiful! Seriously, excellent work. Is the silver MM enamels of Floquil? It looks great! How did you do the chipped paint on the drop tanks? It looks especially well done. [tup]

Yup that’s a beautiful Mustang alright. Nice finishing, weahtering… all of it. And love those crazy teeth.

And if you are this happy with the Tamiya 51… you’re gonna be positively giddy after the 47.

Extreamly nice job done, KUDOS!!

The finish is beautiful and the weathering just enough. Hasa kits are in general nice fitting and I hear the Jug is no exception.

Brent

I like it!

It even looks like there’s a dent in the starboard wing LE. Maybe part of a 109 tail hit when it was blown off by the guns?

Nice one, Hudgeons! I like the NMF finish and wing tank weathering on this one. For all the Mustangs that come across these forums, there are not many Korean War versions. Nice change of pace on a classic aircraft.

As Marc said, the Tamiya P-47 will leave you drooling. It’s a great kit.

If you liked the P-51 you are gonna love the P-47. Nice job

Very nice Stang [tup]. Don’t see many Korean Conflict Mustangs. Thanks for sharing.

Refards, Rick

Nice work on that 'stang…

A beautiful job on the 'Stang, Hudgeons! The nmf is immaculate, the weathering and staining is perfect IMHO! One of the nicest P-51 builds I have seen, thanks for sharing!

Outstanding! Howd you do the rivets on the white?

regards, Mac

Thanks for the comments.

Daywalker - No magic trick on the napalm tanks. I painted the tanks silver, let them cure, sprayed them yellow, let that dry to the touch and then took masking tape and touched the tank and ripped it off. I wadded up the masking tape so it would be a random pattern.

44mac - the rivits on the white are a tribute to the quality of Tamiya decals. They settled in to the rivit holes and a water color wash made them pop.

As far as the dent in the wing (not as noticeable when holding the model), that would be a collision with a clumsy 41 year-old man holding a Xacto.

Well done, well done, very convincing! I’m gonna try that dent thing some day.

Excellent work the NMF and weathering look great.
